Malechai Veteran Posted June 21, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 21, 2002 I recently bought a Canon DV Camcorder and a firewire PCI card so I can move the video to my PC. Anyways, I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer since i'm a complete newbie to firewire. 1) I read that Firewire has its own power supply (or something like that) and it can actually charge the battery on my DV Recorder. Is this true? It'd be cool if I didn't have to plug in the AC adapter while my DV Recorder is connected to the PC. 2) Does a USB to Firewire converter exist? My 4 available USB (1.1) ports are used and I have 5 USB devices. Now that I have this Firewire card, I have 3 available ports, and was hoping I could utilize one of them for my extra USB device. Thanks!

You're welcome mate! :)

spike232
why not get a usb hub? it allows u to run more devices off the one port, and it would be cheeper than any adapter. as for powering ur camcorder that depends u should probally see ur manual for ur camcorder, the fire wire ports do power devices, but it might not charge ur battery as well, mabey just run ur camcorder

I have a Panasonic and the manual says to make sure to use the power supply that comes with the Panasonic to prevent from battery drainage.
