yisman
Is there any way to move the address bar and buttons to the space on top of the tabs? I have an empty bar above the tabs that would be perfect for it. Also, is there a way to get rid of that bar on the left (search, bookmarks, etc.). I use Opera sometimes, but it's annoying as hell, because the window doesn't have as much room to display as in other browsers. Firefox doesn't work properly on my computer, and IE isn't secure. I'm using Version 7.54u2, because I don't want ads with Opera 8. TIA Edited June 19, 2005 by yisman

It will just install over, using the same code - IE if you do an upgrade install, you won't ever see ads in Opera 8. To your question, Press Shift - F4 I think, and the whole panel thingy goes away. Or right click on it and select customize, set it to off. When you are in customize mode, you can drag any fields anywhere (well, you can't put stuff on the menu bar, file, edit, but you can get rid of it (shift F11 if you keep the same keyboard layout in O8 as you had in O7, otherwise, there's an ini to edit or something - check the customize Opera forum on their website). Hope this helps.
yisman
It's all good. I just upgraded to Opera 8 Beta 3. It doesn't have all the crap 7.54 had. Now how can I shift the address bar on top of the tabs? I know a lot of people like it like that. How do you reverse the configuration? Thanks I looked at customize, but it has top, bottom, left right. I want them both on top, but the address bar at the very top.

mr_skrilla
I don't currently have Opera installed so I don't know the exact name of everything but you can go into the customize and then add one of those other toolbars that is above the tabs that is not checked... then drag and drop all the address bar stuff onto it... then uncheck the address bar. +unabatedshagie Subscriber¹ Posted June 20, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 20, 2005 OK, right click on the tabs bar and click on customize, then click the toolbars tab. Check the box next to status bar and change the placement to top. Now with the customisation box open drag the everything you want from the old address bar to the status bar. Then in the customisation box uncheck the box next to address bar. <edit>I didn't fully read your first post, instead of enabling the status bar just drag all the old address bar items onto the other bar. yisman
Just one question, why are you upgrading to beta 3 when 8.01 was just released? 586090956[/snapback] Long story. I can't upgrade to 8 final or 8.01 with my current license, I don't think,

That worked well. Two more things Is there a way to widen the address bar? Right now, it's small and can only contain about 23 characters. Also, after the web address in the box, it says RSS, and underneath it, it says Home, Top 10, Bookmarks, Amazon.com search, and price comparison search. Can I get rid of all that? uniacidz
Customise again, and de-select Start Bar Done As for the 23 character address bar? Provide a screenshot please

Zxian
And what does your screenshot show? We can see that you're running Opera 8 Beta... but you haven't explained why you can't use the Opera 8.01 Final that was just released. If you have a valid licence for Opera 7, then you've got a free upgrade for Opera 8.
yisman
The screenshot was for Davey. As for Opera 8.01: Like I said, I'm pretty sure this license is only valid for Opera 7.54 and up to Beta 3. I don't think it is valid for final. Not that it should make a difference anyway. Is Beta 3 that different from Final?

yisman
I guess I could try it. I should download 8.1 over the top?
Zxian
I've had troubles installing the 8 final over the 8 beta. I'd suggest doing a clean install.
yisman
OK, I'll try it just to humor you guys, but I'm almost positive it won't work for 8.
uniacidz
You can upgrade for free from Opera 7.X, so no excuses :p Do a clean install of Opera 8.01 and if you have same issues, then get back to us. As far as the Address bar issue, looks like you have a Dynamic Spacer in there. Remove this, see screenshot i have provided Edited June 20, 2005 by Davey
yisman
OK, I was right. I'm going to uninstall Opera 8.1 soon. It told me the information "does not seem to be correct" It's the exact same info that I entered and was able to use with Opera 7.54 and Beta 3. uniacidz
http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=791 Opera 8 has an improved user interface with fewer menus, buttons and toolbars visible by default, and some default keyboard shortcuts have been changed to avoid pressing single-key shortcuts by accident, and to allow for related actions to have related keyboard shortcuts. To upgrade from Opera 7.5 to Opera 8 for Windows, simply install the latest version in the same folder where the previous version is installed. Mac and Unix users can just install the newest package normally. Now i know sounds annoying, but the prob here was you installed the beta. You should upgrade from 7.54 to 8.01 easily enough bu installing on top of. Reasons why we asked you to remove Opera 8beta cos it is a development beta. Annoying as it is, im afraid you have to install 7.54 then 8.
yisman
OK. I did a clean install of it earlier, and it didn't work. So I just un-install 8.01, install 7.54, then re-install 8.01? You're sure this will work? Where do I download 7.54?
