yisman
I removed everything from the previous Opera, installed 7.54, registered it, then installed 8.1 into the same folder. I still have ads on it. "The registration information you entered does not seem to be correct..."
jp10558
And what does your screenshot show? We can see that you're running Opera 8 Beta... but you haven't explained why you can't use the Opera 8.01 Final that was just released. If you have a valid licence for Opera 7, then you've got a free upgrade for Opera 8. 586092879 Unless he's confused by the fact that if you install Opera 8.01 over a beta, the title line in Opera6.ini isn't updated, so it still says Opera Beta in the title bar. You can manually edit that if you want.
ThePast
yisman great that you have that sniffer in your signature, apparently I had forgot to change my Opera id back to Opera from IE.

He asked for a screenshot as an explanation of the problem I was having. yisman great that you have that sniffer in your signature, apparently I had forgot to change my Opera id back to Opera from IE. 586098204 Mine is on IE by default, I think. If I wanted it to display as Opera, I'd have to change it.
Zxian
I'd contact the Opera gang regarding your licence. They can probalby help you out more than we can with that stuff.
yisman
I think I'll just go back to using Beta 3. Like I said, it isn't valid for 8.1 Thanks for your help, anyway.

You could be getting more out of your money. Opera 8.01 final has a lot of fixes over any of the betas.
+unabatedshagie Subscriber¹ Posted June 22, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 22, 2005 Here's a quote from the opera 8 changelog found here: This release includes significant security enhancements and fixes vulnerabilities in previous Opera versions and is a recommended upgrade. Upgrading is free of charge for users who have purchased an Opera 7 license. The part in bold means that your 7.xx licence information will work in any 8.xx release. If it doesn't then I would definently contact opera (thats one of the benefits for purchasing opera you get email support) because you are not getting what you paid for. As I said before all I have ever needed to do with any 8.xx release's (this includes any beta version) is do a fresh clean install and enter my registration information. No installing the old 7.xx version then upgrading etc, just a fresh install.
yisman
If you could choose between Opera 8.1 (or 8.01, whatever it is) with ads, or Opera 8 Beta 3 without ads, which would you choose? The ads aren't as bad as I thought, but I'd still prefer not to have them.

Is that it, you got a free code from a magazine or something, that doesn't work with Opera 8? Otherwise, I'm not sure what is confusing here, if you have a valid Opera 7 license (one you bought) it WILL carry over to Opera 8, without any gymnastics on your part. Really, just install Opera 8 over your previous install, and thats it, no ads.
yisman
Well, I tried a clean install and an install over. I did get a code from some sort of offer, and it works with Opera 7.54 and Opera Beta 3. It does not work with Opera 8.1. It's that simple. I have no idea why this would be, but that's the way it is. The promotional codes are only good for Opera 7.x. Though, you should be aware that there are not only bug fixes, but security fixes in Opera 8.01, so to protect yourself, you ought to upgrade.
