SwiftD
Hey guys, Whenever I start IE, this stupid bar thing appears above my taskbar at the bottom of the screen. The red X does not close it. If I close the IE window, it still remains. The only way to get rid of it is to run task manager and find the remaining instance of ieexplore.exe and manually close that. I can't find any options in IE itself to remove this thing. Does anyone have any ideas? Apart from running Firefox, cause I already do but other family members still want to use IE. Cheers! grahamwilmott
find the remaining instance of ieexplore.exe 586096576[/snapback] Its adware. Use spybot, or some such tool.. IE is called "iexplore.exe" (with only one E)
+Xinok Subscriber² Posted June 21, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted June 21, 2005 You most definitely have adware on your pc. Go to the post here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=320017 Under the 'Anti Spyware' category, I would start off trying Microsoft Antispyware, Adaware, and Spybot. If none of those get rid of it, I'm sure others will recommend something else.

SwiftD
shoot sorry that was a typo, the process is iexplore.exe and I have run scans with Spybot and Adaware with updated definitions, Adaware just found some tracking cookies and Spybot found nothing... Should I still try the adoko page stuff? It says that stuff only applies to ieexplore.exe?

mediVh
yeap family computer will be the problem, the amount of times i get my sister screaming "tom, there something wrong with the computer", i go in there and ask wat she did and she like na nothing, 10mins later i find out shed clicked one of the those "Download 10 bazillion free emoticons" or "Congratulations youve wpn a trip to hawaii". God im glad she doesnt use my computer, and to think my mum once suggested letting her use my computer cos she needed to use photoshop, haha yea right umm if Spybot, Pestcontrol, Adaware doesnt come up with anything, try the add remove prorgrams funnily enough sometimes u can remove them from their. then one uve done that close off IE, and install Firefox as ur default browser, just tell everyone its a microsoft update that wat i did,

Lee G. Veteran Posted June 21, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 21, 2005 God - I hate that adware. I had to remove that from my friend's PC - in the end I restored his PC with System Restore back a few months. Before, I used AdAware, MS Anti-Spyware, S&D and removed it and it reappeared. He also had some tabs at the top of IE which were adware too.
