sdb815
All this is going to do is **** people off more and give them another reason to burn the flag. Hopefully it won't become law, this country is losing more and more freedoms each day.
cyoung1616
Did you appoint yourself Chairman of the Flag Commission, or are you quoting a previous ruling? 586106004 I am an Americian, proud of it, proud of my Country, and I respect what My Flag stands for. No more no less, I know my Goverment isn't perfect, no one elses is either. Many have given their lives to keep this country as free as possible and the Flag is a symbol to their memory. No I'm no one but as an Americian I have freedom of speech and this is just my thoughts. If you are someone of importance or just a no one like me it doesn't matter as long as you're in America we have the right to disagree and no one can stop us. Mike Douglas
Burning the flag isn't free speech and I don't know why people confuse it with that. 586105984 No, actually burning the flag is political speech, and therefore covered under the first ammendment. lav-chan
I'm pretty sure that a piece of cloth can mean whatever i want it to mean to me. I don't think they've passed a law yet that takes that right away from me.

lav-chan
Yeah, that's the ticket. I don't plan to ever own a Ferrari in my life, so i should support an amendment making it illegal for other people to buy them, right.

gdodson
For all of you bitching and moaning, how many people will actually be affected by this? How many people actually planned on burning a flag, or made it tradition and now they will miss out? Who cares!? I'll bet that if none of you heard this was going to be a law, you wouldn't be caught burning a flag anyways, whether it was illegal or not. I am not going to make a career out of this subject, I've had my say and as you seem to be grasping for anything to argue about I will stop and let you continue on with someone else. As far as I see it, they are trying to take my freedom of speech away. Regardless if I'll ever use it for that purpose or not, I like to know it's there. Also, what next? Big Brother
some people here are just too naive  its not the material.. its the thought.. just like when someones stuff gets destroyed in a fire.. they always say no matter how much it sux to lose all that stuff.. the thing that they are truly sad about is all the things that have sentimental value.. same thing with flag burning.. its a sentiment of disrespect to the US (or any other country) so it should be banned.. no one cares about the stupid cloth itself burning, its the colors on it that represent the fact that we are a liberated country.. so stop saying the US is being materialistic and w/e coz its a bit deeper than that.. stop being so ignorant people. 586105848 If the flags have such sentimental value to the United States, then the United States should buy or repossess the flags off us so that they can keep them safe. Possession is (or was) nine tenths of the law.

The government should not have the right to dictate what you do with your private property, no matter how stupid it is, no matter how many people it affects. It is your property. It doesn't matter what Cletus down the street feels deep in his heart about your flag or about your car or about your prime rib, they belong to you, so you may do as you like with them. Or changing names of things in state parks or on money because of biblical references. The government is just trying to protect the country. The law is also good because I know that I would be very offended seeing someone burning the flag. While everyone has freedom of speech, it is limited in that it can't be used to "harm" someone; same principle with this perhaps.
cyoung1616
I was a teenager in the 60's, we hated, rebelled against. cussed and did ever thing we could think of but we didn't burn the Flag, we were against the Goverment. Now we did hang a few Nixon's and maybe even burn a few. Cody
naap51stang
Geez! Even thinking about flushing a Koran down the toilet and everyone is up in arms, but pass an amendment to the Constitution against burning the flag and everyone doesn't seem to think it is a good thing......too much political correctness in the world :( :alien:
Mike Douglas
This isn't something as trivial as brussel sprouts or ferraris, this is about political speech. Having the right to say how you feel the government should be run. This is the right all those people have fought and died for, not some flag.
