why is my "Windows XP" screensaver called windows.NET now?

mine says windows.net. it think the reason for this is because of knowledge base article Q306676, aka the update that addressed systems not being able to go to standy mode with certain screen saver.

also update that is needed for GTA3 and nvidia cards.

go to c:windows, must have show all files and folders. you'll see in blue text $NtUninstallQ306676$ look inside and there's the old screen savers.

atomb, i think ur right. I installed all the updates on the MS site on my mom's pc and it still says windows xp so im guessin its from the GTA3 patch thingy...good observation :).

You can point to any screensaver you want to use.

Run regedt32.exe

Go to HKEY_USERSDEFAULTControl PanelDesktop

Double click the SCRNSAVE.EXE string value item

In Value data, type the path name of the screen saver and then click ok.
