Recommended Posts

i am on a budget and i cannot afford one of the new 533fsb p4s, if i buy a 1.8a p4 and an asus p4s533 motherboard should i be able to overclock the fsb to 533 and run at 2.4ghz?

sure. I have 1.6A, using the same mobo and My processor is running smoothly @ 2.39GH ONLY with air cooling. If you get a nice speciment, you should be able to reach 2.6GH or even more... but 2.4 is good. I suggest getting a case (midi-tower) with front fan ( 5.25" ) and two rear fans ( small, default size ) / or one rear ( big, again 5.25" ). btw. use quality DDR Ram ( kingmax, kingston... ), cause "no name" ones can make a real mess. And something else - you don't need to set a 533Mhz FSB, casuse your processor DON'T NEED IT :)

Most 1.8A's will hit 2.4 GHz easily. Just set the the FSB to 133 instead of 100 (should be in there somewhere) and that'll give you 2394 MHz (133x18) and 533 FSB. If you have some good DDR memory that can handle DDR400 speeds, I recommend using the 4/6 divider ;)
