How to connect two pc's in one modem(internet)

I have my two PCs working on one modem its cool that now two in our house can be on dial up at the same time just hooked them together via a network cards setup a network

One machine has 98se had to install the Internet gateway on that one from my xp disk.

And the one with the modem has xp pro on it.

I would definitely recommend using 100 mbps Ethernet if you can, the cards are really cheap (about $10-20) and they are much better than direct cable connection (parallel and serial), especially if you have any desire to transfer large files in addition to just Internet usage.

Yeah, That is what I would do. A few weeks ago I found 11 network cards in the trash can at school, they all worked too :) I sold them to people for $2 each and I kept one for testing!

So just look around and you might find some!

You don't need a Hub if all you want to do is hook 2 computers together and use one for dial-up. I was always told that a hub was needed but tried it without one anyways.

I made a crossover cable, hooked the 2 computers together threw the network cards, and everything set up automaticly. I didn't have to do anything. basicly the hardest part was wiring all those tiny wires into a plug which I only did, cuz I bought 100 feet of Cat5 cable, lol.
