The Capitol evacuated

Recommended Posts

An evacuation of the Capitol was called, and then called off four minutes later. Secret Service agents had taken up positions on the front lawn with shotguns.

Apparently, an aircraft strayed into restricted territory. People are still milling around the building.

Not exactly sure what the Secret Service agents were going to accomplish. I guess if terrorists parachuted down from a plane or something.

A while ago, during Reagan's funeral, the capitol was evacuated because the plane carrying the governor of Kentucky failed to identify itself.

Link.

The capitol was evacuated again this May when an unidentified plane was spotted.

Link.

This happens fairly routinely.

Good point. I guess I didn't hear about those when they happened. This was presented as crucial breaking news, and it interrupted programming on non-news stations.

^yeah, have rockets and cannons and fighterjets...it a plane was gonna crash into it or something, shotgus would only help it explode on impact.

they're just for decoration.  you know, like to fend off predators.

this is pretty common, though.

It is also a good idea to remain vigilante for other forms of attack then a plane straying too close. If it really is a terrorist threat of some kind, there may very well be more than one aspect to the attack.

It actually makes pretty good sense to me.
