Problem Watching Video In Browser

Recommended Posts

I've ran into a problem recently where I no longer can watch videos in my browser. I use Maxthon but I also tried in regular IE and it does the same thing. I've provided a screenshot of what happens.

How can I fix this? I tried disabling all filters and ad-blocks but that doesn't solve it either.

Thanks :)

^-- This means that WMP isn't able to load wmploc.dll properly. What are the file versions of wmploc.dll and wmplayer.exe and wmp.dll on your system?

wmplayer.exe: 10.0.0.3646

I don't have the other 2 files in my Windows Media Player directory. I tried running the WMP update and it said all components are up-to-date, there is nothing to download.

Should I try to reinstall WMP10 and download it from Microsoft's website?

Ok, I just redownloaded WMP10 and also the WMP9 codecs and WMP6.4 codecs, installed all three and rebooted.

wmploc.dll: 10.0.0.3802

wmp.dll: 10.0.0.3802

wmplayer.exe: 10.0.0.3802

I tried to view the video from my screenshot and still the same result. :(

Okay, according to tlist, that AtomFilms page pulls in wmpdxm.dll, wmp.dll, wmploc.dll, wmvcore.dll, wmasf.dll, wmnetmgr.dll, wmadmod.dll, and wmvdmod.dll (if we ignore everything but what is included in the WMP10 package). wmpdxm.dll handles embedding wmp.dll with the ui of wmploc.dll. What is the version of wmpdxm.dll?

If you run:

regsvr32 wmp.dll

regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll

, does that correct this error?

I'm still curious about the source of this, and definitely know a work-around, but I'm trying to find you a solution here. =)

Ok, version of wmpdxm.dll is 10.0.0.3802

I tried your regsvr32 suggestion and no luck. I don't understand it, when I go to view the video, an intro appears (it's a commercial that you sit through for about 10 seconds). But, once the main video loads then I get the same result as the screenshot.

I'm surprised there aren't more people with this problem; that doesn't sound very promising :(

Well, if more people had this problem, it'd be easier to diagnose, of course. Not many people have this problem because it's a weird corruption of your ability to embed a very specific interface in WMP.

How doesn't it sound promising? I've got a work-around, but the moment I provide you that, we lose your system state and thus I'm not terribly keen to take that step yet. Consider that a bail-switch. =\

What did you install around the time you first got into this problem? Have you "customized" wmploc.dll or anything like that?

Yes, it is known that for users hitting this a page using the WMP7+ CLSID will work, and that one using the WMP6 CLSID will not work. They are embedding completely different interfaces. The key is that "OBJECT

CLASSID="CLSID:6BF..." (WMP7 interface) and "OBJECT

CLASSID="CLSID:22d..." (WMP6 interface) are different. The first one should work for you, the second one won't.

It is of pretty much absolutely no interest to know "when" you get this error, because as mentioned it should be every time you try to use the 22d interface in a web page. That's it. So let's move on past that and focus on the How:

I'll repeat my own question:

What did you install around the time you first got into this problem? Have you "customized" wmploc.dll or anything like that?

Because we're (as usual) spinning wheels here:

run:

regsvr32 msdxm.ocx

and you'll be unbroken but have the old v6 interface.

run:

regsvr32 wmpdxm.ocx

regsvr32 wmp.dll

and you'll be back to the v9+ interface.

I would REALLY like more information here. Hell, I'd probably be willing to try to walk through somebody's dump of their HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry database in the broken state (you'd want to WinZIP that...) to see if there's any red flags there that indicate what might have caused this. Since I do work at Microsoft, if I can get information here on what's actually CAUSING this issue (as opposed to how to 'work around' the issue), I can try to incorporate that information into future versions of the product, to let them fix you up.

I have uninstalled WMP10 at least a dozen times, cleaned the registry and all. I tyr to watch videos on www.big-boys.com, and get the error (well there is no error message) as the first screen print. The WMP box looks exactly the same.

How do I do what you say?

run:

regsvr32 msdxm.ocx

and you'll be unbroken but have the old v6 interface.

run:

regsvr32 wmpdxm.ocx

regsvr32 wmp.dll

and you'll be back to the v9+ interface

I guess I am dumb, but I don't know how to do this. Thanks for the offer to help....

Yeah, I wrote the WMP installer you use. The WMP "uninstall" you're referring to is actually a rollback. If you actually "cleaned your registry", you've pretty much screwed your machine, because the WMP10 package does not restore the WMP6 registry. I'm hoping you didn't do something like that. If you did, you would need to rollback WMP10, install WMP9 for Windows Me/2000 on your XP machine (which may not even work), and then install WMP10 again after that and you might be back in working order. You don't need to 'clean' or 'rip out' WMP - it's never productive.

Actually, what I said was pretty literal. Press the START button. Press the RUN option there. You'll get a prompt. Type in "regsvr32 msdxm.ocx". And the same goes for the other two options. What you're doing is switching embedding types. Nobody "wants" the WMP6 interfaces anymore - WMP9+ being more secure, but the first command switches you to the WMP6 interface, the second to the v9+ interface.

When I run the "regsvr32 msdxm.ocx", I get an error message that says:

"loadLibrary("msdxm.ocx) failed. The specified Module could not be found"

When I run th "regsvr32 wmpdxm.ocx:, I get a simular error, but with ethe wmpdxm.ocx file.

The last run command works (updates successfully), but same issue still happens. I will rollback to WMP9 and then install 10 again.

No, I didn't customize the wmploc.dll.

For the regsvr commands I have all the same results as jefexp.

I don't have a wmpdxm.ocx but I have a wmpdxm.dll

WMP is really a hassle to uninstall, why can't it have a simple uninstaller without touching on stuff like restore points.

I guess because WMP has gotten too complex and too integrated with the OS plumbing.

Ought to seperate them to give the user less headaches(in my opinion).

Anyway I was following Bold Fortune's windows slimming guide and had unregistered and removed msdxm.ocx.

Thats what i remember doing before the video error happened.

Luckily I got the file backuped, I replaced it and registered msdxm.ocx, wmpdxm.dll and wmp.dll.

All is well now.

Thanks for the fix, zachdms.

I hope the other affected users get their problem fixed too.

jef: ? msdxm.ocx should (must) be in your system/system32 directory - is it? If it's not, you're going to have problems... (as iron2000 noted).

If the problem is simply a missing msdxm.ocx, that's pretty intriguing information, actually. =\

Is this topic dead already?

I found out that I can play the embedded content here ok:

But most other embedded content like this one:

http://zeebadesign.com/iranvideo.html

or this one:

I can't play.

I just have msdxm.ocx, but not in my system/system32 directory. It is in my install files for Symantec Systemworks 2005. Should I just move it to system/system32?

Wait, WHAT?

*sits stunned for a moment*

What kind of system is this? How did you have this file missing? Did you use XPLite or nLite or other system-breaking/munging application?

What's the version in the Systemworks folder? 6.4.7.xxxx is ANSI, 6.4.9.xxxx is Unicode...

I did a search on my system, and it found that file in a folder that has the setup files for SystemWorks 2005. I also found the same file online, and it's the same date and size. If you have SystemWorks 2005 cd, it is in the NAV 2005\SUPPORT\MSIE\MPLAY2A.CAB, MPLAY2U.CAB, and MPLAYER2.CAB folders and the same on the SystemWorks 2005 folder - same MSIE folder.

I didn't use nlite ot XPLite. I have a legit XP Pro setup, and nothing odd or modified. I have no idea how it could be missing, unless jv16 Power Tools could have removed it on a reg clean or something like that (no bag on jv16, I love it).

So how do I "register" it?

A repeat of steps I took to fix the problem:

Make sure you have

msdxm.ocx

wmpdxm.dll

wmp.dll

in C:/Windows/System32.

Then in the Run dialog box input

(one command at a time)

regsvr32 msdxm.ocx

regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll

regsvr32 wmp.dll

to register the files.

That did the work for me.
