I'd stick with IE5.5 i find it much better, and depending on your OS it may interagate better.

I did'nt like all the new XP like Icons it installed and found 5.5 much faster on my Win2K system.

Remember just because you can do a thing, dos'nt mean you should do a thing.

If IE5.5 is running fine, then theres no need to upgrade is there?

Just my two cents....

Well I'm running IE 5.5 on a Windows ME, and it runs fine so far; if IE 6 has more features, is faster, or whatever, then I might think of moving on up to that instead, altho I've heard lots of bad comments about IE 6 [ which were awhile ago, tho, about when it first came out :p ]

Well all I have to say about IE 6 is that it matches Windows XP pretty well, lol. Thats pretty much why I use it.

Now if it was functionality and speed I was after, I'd go back to Netscape 4x. But if I just wanted a super fast browser, with some bugs, then I'd definitely choose Netscape 6 or 7.

Netscape for me is most definitely out of the question lol; I don't really like it :x

I have IE 5.0 and did the security test, it is not vulnerable to the security holes and other stuff. IE6, IMHO, seems kinda bloated and buggy, since I dont use any of the new features anyways, it just wastes ram.

http://www.mozilla.org

Get a standards compliant browser that has cool features like tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking built-in.

At the very least, get IE6. It's got much better rendering standards, and the stupid IE5.x CSS centering bug is gone in IE6...

But serious, Moz > IE6 > IE5.x

If you're using Windows ME, don't think of it! I tried doing that with that OS and it killed my PC! But still, Mozilla is the best browser out there. Here are what I'd rate the browsers:

1. Mozilla 1.0 or 1.0a

2. Netscape 6.2 or 7.0 PR1

3. Opera 6

4. Internet Explorer 4.0

5. Netscape 4.79

6. Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0

7. AOL

I do detest Microsoft, but I did like Internet Explorer 4.0's performance when it was out. If I could go back the version 4 with Windows 2000, I'd be all set. But then again, Mozilla gets my vote as I have mentioned!

So to answer your question, it doesn't matter if you upgrade it or not! It doesn't matter! Just stick to my recommendation and you'll be surprised!

Contrary to what some MS Flamers may indicate to you, IE6 is a natural upgrade from IE5.5... It features improved printing features as well as massive speed enhancements... It is a must get for users of any version of Windows.

If you are feeling daring, go ahead, after you've gotten updated to IE6, give Mozilla a shot. I think you'll agree that the Media Hype around this young Upstart browser isn't yet warrented as it's Rendering Engine is slow, buggy, and for most uses reletively unstable.

To say one is better than the other isn't right, it is a matter of personal preference. To say that IE is more Feature Complete and Supported by the majority of WebSites is a fact that isn't disputable...

Give them both a shot and let us all know what you think as you're uninstalling Mozilla.

Blak n Wite: Seriously, if your this concerned about IE6 then let me suggest, no, PLEAD that you upgrade from ME to Windows2000 Pro or WindowsXP first!!!

Leave the crappy, buggy Win9x code base behind and move to the stable superiority of WindowsNT base (Win2k/ WinXP). You'll thank me for it!!!

Yeah, go Mozilla or IE6. Mozilla is the better browser, however Ive found one bug that kills me...my 4th and 5th mouse buttons won't work with it, which drives me nuts. IE6 is more stable than IE5 - 5.5.

I've always thought about upgrading from ME to XP, but never done it [ yet :) ] I will most definitely go through with it in the near future ;)

Do yourself a favor and search the Neowin forums for the "Why do you hate Windows ME?" thread.

And read...
