SmacK
no I have nothing against classical music. Infact I listen to it all the time, I think its great. The reason I thought it would be funny is because the people who killed the kid are probobly the kind of people that like the heavy metal and the stupid rap crap. So for them to kill someone and end up with classical would be OWNED worthy. 586159498 so instead, you hate on other types of genre. great job! gotta love ignorance. Denis W. Veteran Posted July 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2005 Damn, not again. But I'm pretty sure the damn iPod can't be blamed. He would've been beaten to death for whatever player he had. Just a case of mindless materialistic asses thinking they're all bad, nothing else. so I'm guessing... an 'apple' a-day doesn't keep the doctor away.......**** 586159368 LOL. I remember a few years back when people were OBSESSED with Pokemon... some kid in Chicago (I think; maybe it was New York) was killed for his stupid cards. 586159381 Oh, and there was this crazy case on Judge Judy where a grandmother and her grandson sued his former friend for $5000... for Pokemon cards. Let's just say the case was dismissed. :pinch:

The Plague
Wow...Ipods are really dangerous to you health...not really though. Where I live, I'm pretty sure not to many even know what an Ipod is. I can't wait until somebody sues Apple because of this or something similar. Stranger things have happened.

Makeshift Hammer
No material object on earth is worth a life. He should have just handed it over and ran like a bunny. It is a shame though, his family would be devestated and all for nothing.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted July 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2005 The sad thing is, this would still have happened if it was anything else, only reason it made the news was because it was a iPod, if people looked into it, i suspect the murder/robbery rates would be higher. Classical music its great. The most complex compositions ever are in there. 586159464
Makeshift Hammer
Whats up with the recent classical music hating in neowin?Classical music its great. The most complex compositions ever are in there. 586159464 You should check out some John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Schaeffer for a little brain challenging and complex music. They're from the modern era of composing, but are very drawn towards the theory and experimentation used by the old masters (if that term doesn't only refer to painters. :p )

It didn't specify in the article if he had the trademark white Ipod headphones. But if he did it's news here becuase the NYPD released a warning about a moth or so ago warning people that it was a dead give-away that you were carrying one. aristotle-dude
This would never happen where I live in Montreal, there a white earphones every corner you go.Very sad and stupid though this story. 586159332 Yup. I saw the same thing when I was in Vancouver, I saw iPods and Shuffles everywhere. I'd say that over 90% of the people I saw with a music player had an iPod of some sort. I saw iPod ads on the sides of buses, billboards and even the dairy board has milk ads with people competing for ipods on Vancouver streets/beaches. Its not the iPod... it is those foolish kids that killed him. 586159356 You're right, the iPod happened to be what the victim had on him and the thieves thought it was valuable. The problem was these kids and the culture of fear people live in. I was not the least bit afraid to walk in downtown even in the bad area by the bridges with my iPod because I'm not afraid. I'm not even afraid to die. Those punks in the story were acting like a pack of predators looking for their victim who stood out of the crowd/herd as someone vulnerable. They are essentially cowards who would never attack someone who they could not intimidate. In almost all these cases, the victim is someone who is an easy target. Now, I'm not suggesting that people should be stupid but they should consider the following: - don't act like a potential victim as they can smell fear - be aware of your surroundings - be aware of your abilities so that you don't get over your head - psychology is their main weapon spo think of how you could turn their weapon against them
L3thal Veteran Posted July 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2005 Its quite sickening they would kill someone for a device that costs no more than $250.

Denis W. Veteran Posted July 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2005 Just hand over your iPod to the next suspisous man you see without question, problem solved. 586159948 That would be the smart thing to do. Give up a materialistic object to save your own life, as it has no price tag. Problem is 90% of iPod owning kids won't, just because they wasted like hundreds of dollars on songs (and having no backups). And of course the punks may be just the type that could give a rat's ass about someone's life and kill the poor guy just for the hell of it. Damn world. About the popularity of the iPods at school... first off, I haven't seen anyone with a Shuffle. (Hell, almost all small MP3 players beat the Shuffle, hands down. Who gives a damn about 512 MBs anyway?) For iPods... I guess every 1 in like 40 people. The rest of them are smart enough to get other MP3 players.

Deron Dantzler
Sad story. However, iPod has such market capitalization I would be willing to bet that any MP3 playing device could be referred to as an iPod by law enforcement officers who just view it as an MP3 player. It's kind of typical for people to utilize a brand identity to describe a device. The same thing even happens with other things like food brands etc. Nearly everyone refers to window cleaner as Windex. Tissues are almost always called Kleenex even though it may not be the specific brand. Could be that other MP3 players are getting stolen as well. I'm sure a criminal isn't so picky over which brand MP3 player it is.
