amrinders87
That is awesome of him. I mean it isn't like he threw iPods at the family he actually took the time to call him. 586169609 Yeah. Nice job Steve.
ford.red
thats well nice of him. Do you think Bill Gates would do the same if someone died in relation to a M$ product?dunno what the scenario would be like, but anyway

iconboy
as much as i want to applaude steve for what he did, in the end this was a PR thing. It has NOTHING to do with the vitim's family or them sueing apple, and EVERYTHING to do with parents thinking "i shouldnt buy little suzzie an ipod because its a target for theft". Just as many people avoid buying certain cars because they are on those "top 10 most stolen cars" lists. I know many people will think "wtf does a phone call have to do with this!?" nothing if it wasnt leaked. but it really puts into the psyche of the general public that "hey the ipod is a target, but that steve jobs is a nice CEO", or mybe im reading into it,. but honestly who else like me after reading this article said to themselve "i want a mac now" ;) -
Island Roots
anyone else wonder how the heck he got his cell phone number  ?but indeed a nice move 586171756 In the article, it states that Jobs had an assistant call a local newspaper and ask for the family's phone number. icecaveman
Steve Job thinks: I know what's just right to improve our marketing. Then he asks: Secretary could you find the parents of the kid who was killed by an iPod last week and contact them? Just make up some BS, I don't care. --- Well guess this will be reported as well. Island Roots
I think it's funny how there are people who say that this is simply a publicity or marketing stunt. Wake up and smell the coffee. Steve Jobs is that kind of guy. He's not your typical CEO. Would the Creative CEO have called a family if their kid had been killed over a Creative MP3 player? Probably not. It isn't because the company is worse or has to worry about their image. Steve Jobs strays from the norm. It is just another example that he is not your normal CEO. Apple wasn't going to get any bad publicity or suffer any losses over this. The only people that are to blame are the kids and the relative lack of safety of the neighborhood the kid was traveling in. It's sorta like beating a dead horse into the ground. There's always going to be those naysayers.

Adam_Brown
I think that Steve did the right thing, in calling them. It has made me have more respect for Mr J. And as for those who are making fun of this story, bad karma.
y0sh
Good guy (Y) It'd be funny if he sent them a few iPods with the engraving: "THIS KILLED YOUR SON LOL" Actually, that wouldn't be funny, I'm just kidding - or am I? He stressed on the 'anything' in "if there's anything I could do". Almost sounds as if Jobs is enticing the man to ask for something.. some Apple computers? A job at Apple, maybe? If I whack my dog over the head with an ipod, will I get something similar? or close?
icecaveman
BTW... Note to self: Hire some bum to rob my brother's iPod, and then rather than just killing for it, kill with it. Then Jobs would offer ANYTHING right...
thagame
its not good that the kid died but jobs calling the guy was publicity. if someone was killed for his shoes and nike didnt call does that make them bad. or if a computer electrocuted someone and dell or alienware or any other pc place didnt call does that make them bad? of course not. but since gates is richer then anyone will ever be and is cutthroat that makes him so evil haha you try running a big company like that with 100% morals, your company will burn to the ground in a week. jobs act was just to get people to say awww jobs is so nice. and its MS not M$ . thats so dumb
Mx
Well done Steve. That would of taken courage, kudos to him.
Ryne
The guy is human, its not a publicity stunt. I would feel bad if one of my products (which are meant to bring joy) indirectly leads to the death of someone. He is a CEO, but that doesn't mean he is always scheming. LispyGlitter2
i have new respect for Steve. he didn't have to call, he didnt' even have to come out and say he was sorry that one of his products lead to the son's death.

Alex Shenoy
and its MS not M$ . thats so dumb 586172528 Well I suppose you couldn't have 4pple, or App1e or Appl3 or even 4pp13. Then that would be overkill. Way to go Steve Jobs. I don't think there was any way that Steve could have known whether the story would get out or not. I don't believe this to be a publicity stunt. I think it is just Jobs being himself. A down to earth and moral man.
