BroChaos Veteran Posted June 25, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 25, 2002 need some help guys. my comp was working fine last night, never had any problems. turn it off at night, turn it back on in the morning, and it says "found new hardware: ethernet adapter". well i didn't install any new hardware. so i cancel, go to hardware manager, uninstall the "unknown" device, and uninstall the original drivers (which now had a question mark, with the error "device unable to start"). i reboot, and the same thing happens again. then i poweroff, take out the card, boot, and nothing tries to load, so i know the "new" adapter is somehow coming from the current adapter. then i put it back in, and now xp won't detect any new hardware. anybody have any ideas as to what could be wrong? i'm gonna try swapping cards when i get off of work. thanks. BroChaos Veteran Posted June 26, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2002 hey, i tried that. no luck though. i had a second card, and when i swapped it in, it worked fine. so i'm pretty sure the first card is messed up :/
Mark Otto
might not be the card if it redetected it..configuration of it may have been screwy tho
sunnyy4
Have you checked your configuration of the card (e.g. IP, DNS, etc.). That's the same thing that happened to me when I got a new NIC.
BroChaos Veteran Posted June 26, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2002 here's what it was trying to do last: it would install the correct drivers, and then try to install drivers for a "ethernet controller". there are no drivers for "ethernet controllers". the correct drivers for the correct product get installed automatically by xp. so i don't know whats wrong, i called tech support and got an rma.
