havyn
Hi, My dad wants me to get a couple of WiFi cards to replace our cabled ethernet with. I was wondering if anyone had a good/bad experience with the sub-$100 offerings of Linksys, D-Link, NetGear, etc. that they could share with me. Any information would be helpful in my search, thanks! ~havyn [EDIT] c'mon guys! someone's got to know something!! i thought this was all the rage these days... AndyD
i got me a lucent orinoko gold card (128 bit WEP) for $75 not including shipping off of pccdepot.com. no complaints here. i walked out of the apt and down the hall and it still was working. im satisfied :) my original plan was to get that 3com one but the pccdepot said that they discontinued it as they will be coming out with a new version in july. Rivak
I use a NetGear 301/401 PCI setup. Works well, I haven't had any problems with it yet. How far apart are your pc's? You don't necessarily need an access point.
havyn
well, they will be about 2 floors apart, so ~50ft but through walls and floors, if that makes any difference. we are actually looking at the Airport because my brother just got an iMac and my dad is looking at another one... i will check out the netgear and linksys solutions...thanks. Rivak
I have a very similar setup and it works fine in AdHoc. I believe that AirPort Admin has the option for a software base station.. mac people, am I right?
