Is there anything that is super tiny but also really functional? I wonder if there are any good players under 1mb in download size.

OK, I asked this question for MONTHS on various forums b/c although my 256M ATI card had served me well for years supporting my two monitors and playing DVD quality movies perfectly on my two 1920X1080 24" ASUS monitors, as soon as I started Blueray movie playback, the results were often choppy (ESPECIALLY if I was doing something on the other monitor). I tried DOZENS of video players and ultimately VLC proved to be the BEST hands down. For instance, Blueray content was virtually impossible to view on Media Player Classic. I should stop here to say I have a 2 year old Compaq desktop running Win 7 with an AMD Athlon II X2 dual-core 215, 3 GIG of Ram, an internal 500 gig C drive, TWO 1 TB Western Digital outboard drives (my primary movie HD is conected to a USB 3.0 card I installed and let me tell you, USB 3.0 is FAST!!!-movies start INSTANTLY as no time is needed to build a buffer AND of course transfer rates seem to be about 10 times faster than USB2!!!). Anyway, I digress.

I JUST (two days ago) broke down and bought a new Nvidia video card with 1 gig of memory and Direct X11 and 3D capability.

OH MY GOD!!!!! I might as well have a new computer!!!! I can use ANY video player *and I mean ANY!) on an uncompressed Blueray file; 15+ gig....and playback is as smooth as silk (no matter what I am doing on the other screen). I noticed several unexpected things IMMEDIATELY. First, what I THOUGHT was decent Blueray playback was really incorporating some degree of frame-rate compression. in other words, while a 10 fps Blueray movie "appeared" just fine, as soon as I installed my new video card, I was VERY surprised to see how much SMOOTHER all Blueray content suddenly appeared to be as I was now seeing the "true" frames per second!!!

As my Compaq had originally COME with 256meg of onboard video memory AND I had installed my good old "hot-rod" (OK, it was a hot-rod card 6 years ago) 256meg ATI video card as well, I figured I had all the video fire-power I could need. WRONG!!!!!!!!!

The point I am making is that my assumption had been that b/c I had 512meg of shared video processing power, my problems with blueray stumbling now and then was more likely due to a not fast enough processor. It turns out I simply needed a RELATIVELY ($85) inexpensive new video card.

What I discovered is that high-def video content needs an exponential increase in video resources. What seemed like TONS of video power 4 years ago (a fancy 512meg card), just dosen't cut it with the advent and universal acceptance of Blueray. The old dictum that "unless you're a hard-core gamer, 512meg will be more than enough for you" SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE anymore with the advent of A) super high-res video content like Blueray B) more and more people using large (24" and larger) 1920X1080 monitors and B) more and more people using multiple monitors, even if it's just to connect the home TV to your computer via all the different connection options (HDMI, DVI, component-video, S-video, ect.).

Like I said at the bigining, VLC wins the speed contest hands-down. But for a BIG increase in viewing satisfaction, consider a video card upgrade. Just a thought....

See ya,

Ha ha I was just about to answer when I looked at the date and also thought that this must be one of the oldest thread resurrections that I've ever seen here!
