best browser?

Uh, what don't you like about Maxthon? It does just about everything, or has a plug-in that does. Or are you just bored with it?

If you know the plugins etc to get/customizations to make, Firefox is a good browser. But lately, for me, its been becoming more and more resource hungry when I run mem intensive apps. Anyway there's a Browser discussion thread where this had been discussed.

The best browser is choice.

You can check out the latest test version of Firefox, Deerpark Alpha 2. (don't forget to try the extensions)

You can also try Opera (don't forget to play with the settings if you want).

Either way, Maxthon, Firefox Deerpark (on Power profile), and Opera, are all configured to look and work almost identically the same for me.

opera no question. it doesn't have plugins, but it's the fastest browser out there (i tried firefox after using opera for a while and hated it, even with plugins like mouse gestures, etc.)

I think Opera is the best browser if only because it uses less resources than Firefox with a couple tabs open over a period of time, Firefox can get quite wasteful.

I use Firefox as my browser though because I dislike ads in my software.

FireFox to me is by far the closest to A Perfect Browser.

I tried Opera again a few days ago. Haven't used it in a few years or so, and I thought it was really slow compared to FireFox

So up to now, you've got 3 choices. Firefox, Opera or stay with Internet Explorer, getting some extended capibilities from Maxthon etc. Its ultimately your choice since everyone have their own reasons to support their.. err, favored browser.

What is the best browser is a very subjective opinion, for me it is Opera for others Firefox and for a shockingly large majority it is IE.

That said, my suggestion is try at least both Firefox and Opera. And take the time to find out their different strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion the best way is to ask in the official forums, why you should use browser X. Unfortunately if asking the same question in a neutral forum it is likely to turn out into a flame war. Another advantage (no disrespect neowin ;) ) is that in the official forums you'll find the most knowledgeble users.

Here are some of my arguments for Opera that I originally posted in thisthread as response to a question similar to yours.

The reasons I'm using Opera instead of Firefox are many but the mainreason is that to get similar functionality in FF as in a Opera I would have to download tens of extensions and if I'm unlucky the extensions might conflict, if so then I'd have a major problem figuring out which one that conflicts with wich.

Some of the things I like in Opera are:

Highlight text and have it translated into English from German/French/Italian/Spanish/Japanese and more.

Highlight text and search the highlighted text in Google, Dictionary, Encyclopedia, Download.com and others you can also search from the url field for example for Google you'd type g what you search for. In addition to this you can quite easily add your own search engines, I have added Wikipedia and IMDB. Firefox have extensions for searches like this but as far as I can tell the possibilities are bigger in Opera (I failed to find IMDB and Wikipedia search extensions for Firefox)

You can change tabs by holding down the righ mouse button and roll your mousewheel, this is a nice feature as you can remove the visual tabs having a more space efficient browser.

Integrated mail into the browser is something I like

Find as a you type, press '.' or ',' and you can search text inside a webpage (It is a common missconception that you can only find as you type in Firefox)

You can control Opera with your voice and have it read out the text on webpages for you, as far as I know only in English, so when I'm bored it is very entertaining having it read text in my native language Swedish

Mouse gestures comes with Opera by default no need for extensions.

Many non-Opera users complain that Opera have problems rendering too many sites (not true), and this can just as well be said about Firefox and IE.

Opera and Firefox mainly fail at sites specifically written for IE, and IE fail on many standard compliant sites. In reality no matter which browser you use you will occasionally experience bad rendering. The only way to find out which browser that is best on this for you is to try them and see if any has problems with your favourite sites.

If Opera fail to render a site you like ask on the forum, chances are good that this can be fixed by changing Operas settings or ua.ini and there are plenty of people here that are glad to help you out.

Assuming that you ave posted post a similar question about which browser to use on the Mozilla forums, knowing the replies it is likely to generate on Operas rendering I ask you to read this --Firefox users turned away from 10% of top UK sites. This simply shows that things are not as black and white as many think.

There are many more things that makes me choose Opera, so I will only mention one more.

If Opera or your computer crash, when you restart Opera after the crash you are able to open it with all the pages you had open before the crash and even use the back button to go back into your surf history, it is worth mentioning that I've found Opera to be exceptionally stable.

Good luck in finding the browser that suits your needs
