What do you guys find so fun about golf?

Just about my entire office plays golf, *all* of the managers at the last place I worked played golf...in fact, they had their own tournament. Everyone who plays loves it and seems obsessed with it.

So I'm asking you guys who play...why do you play and how do you find hitting a small ball all over the place fun?

To be honest I have tried it several times and I never could really get into. Maybe it has to do with some people like quite and nothingness. Me myself I like activeness.

I used to play every week when i was younger. I found it relaxing. I used to do it before my football match on saturdays. It can also be quite competative.

I watch people when we drive past the golf course, and they are with their friends. But no one ever looks like they are talking to eachother. They just hit a ball, and then walk after it.

It doesn't seem like a good way to be with your friends, or even be fun.

Because hitting a ball 300 yards is an awesome feeling.

Golf is a great game. Nice and relaxing, and challenging. You basically play against yourself every time you go out there. Nothin like it.

It is just a fun and relaxing game. Plus, alot of rich people play golf, so maybe if you meet someone on the course one day they might offer you a job. :p

But seriously, it's relaxing and it does feel good driving a ball 300 yards.

Golf just takes so much skill and mental ability. I just LOVE it so much. Right now I'm a 12 handicap :)

golf is a game for rich people. if you play golf and tennis you will have a much greater chance for socilizing with the right people.

as for poorer crowd - a lot of my friends play golf - they just take all the good friends and a few cases of beer to the game - very fun indeed.

Golf is so much fun because it can be so hard! Even when you strugle, all it takes is one great shot and you're hooked again. At least for me anyway. My handicap is a 7.

I used to play a fair amount with my dad when I was younger but stopped for about 8 years.

I still go to the driving range now and then, I went yesterday actually. It's just really nice and relaxing, go with a few friends and hang out whilst obliterating a few golf balls haha. I went to a 9hole wthat I used to go to as a kid but I found it quite frustrating because I wasnt very good, I would like to practice more and improve though, it is very relaxing and satisfying if you dont do too badly.

Golf is a game of controlling your nerves and concentration. It is relaxing to breathe the open air for around four hours per round and enjoy shooting with people who are better than you (makes you strive to play better, especially when you muscle out a 300 yard drive! :D)... I've been playing for almost all my life and my handicap is 10 right now (haven't played in 2 years and rebuilding my swing :)).

Ah, Golf... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

Well for starters, as has been mentioned, it is a personally challenging game always striving for personal bests. When you play against another person (tennis, softball, etc.) you can always think that your opponent was off and it is hard to determine your personal performance.

Although my buddies and I don't chat it up like a bunch of nancies while playing, the camaraderie is very much present. Toss in a few beers on each side and maybe a stogie - good times!

It can be variably difficult, as you can choose to set yourself farther back or closer up on the tee box to challenge yourself that day. It is also an equalizing game, as ladies can hit from 20 yards shorter than men and then nothing but skill should come into play.

"Also, I truly believe in this saying, "It can be a sport (if you walk) or a game (if you ride)."

Typically the ones who hate the game have not yet become good enough to truly enjoy the subtleties of the game. Striking a hooded 5 iron flush and hooking it under the pines to roll it up on the green - wow. Hitting a 3/4 sand wedge 5 yards long of the pin, one hop then *zip* - oh baby. If you haven't done either of these two things I just said, then maybe that is why you don't quite understand how people can become hooked on it.
