What made you switch?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering what made all you FF users make the switch. Im an IE user myself, but Im open to new things :) I tried FF, but can't get over that fact that it seems to take a long time to start up :s Maybe you gurus have some tweaks that'll fix that, hehe. Anyway, what were the reasons for you to switch? Was it the tabbed browsing, or did you do it just to **** MS off? :p (Its a joke people, not flaming). Anyways, it seems like a pretty cool browser, with the whole tabbing and all...But is there more to it? I just wanna know what the FF craze is all about :)

Tabbed browsing was a major thing for me. Also the lack of security exploits was another big pull. This thing is opensource so if there are bugs, they are found very quickly and patched fairly soon after discovery. The same does not hold true for IE. I still use IE for some things... but FF is a nice browser.

some of the reasons i switched were coz

1. tabbed browsing - way more easier and convinient than having 10 ie's open on my taskbar..

2. skins and plugins.

3. i rarely get spyware with firefox.. feel really safe with FF..

doesn't seem to take a long time to load but IE has an advantage since it was built into windows and uses all the active libraries/dlls and stuff, firefox has to load some of its own

extensions extensions extensions at first you may be like this sucks i sure did but after giving it three full chancess 1 week trials i finally gave the energy to learn how to customize it and tweak it now iv set it up so effieciently that i can do wat ever i want so easily. also the new 1.05 + firefox preloader decrease startup time drastically.

tab browsing is the best

firefox has a series of extensions that are really good

ctrl+f = find a word or phrase in a website

you can easily download a media file by right clicking the page and selecting 'view page info'>media>save as

firefox also have themes

with the pipelineing tweak, and firetune, it makes it really fast.

bookmark toolbar is really good

Well, that does it :) I made the switch. Also, I noted this: remember what I said earlier about FF taking longer to load than IE? Its a minor blemish, since it new tabs are opened immediatley, much quicker than loading a new window in IE ;) Im using a theme called Brushed, which looks cool and goes PERFECTLY with my VS (BW, or Brushed Window :D). It all looks so metallic, its sexy, hehe. All im missing is an Icon pack for Windows that compliments the whole metallic feel. I guess I'll go to the customizing forum and ask for a bit of help :p

Anyways, thanks to all of you for your convincing arguments. You have made me see the light: FF > IE :p

tabs and security...

i'll gladly go back to IE when version 7.0 comes out, because i loved how IE6 loaded in a millisecond.. my firefox takes about 2-4 seconds.. which is slow for when i really need to get work done.

also IE renders every site perfectly. mainly because like 80% of pc users use IE still... so websites have to work with IE

The hype made me try it. The hype was right. I get more viewing area with FireFox. Seems a lot faster and if its missing something you like then extensions will fix that for you :)

^ Agreed, the "hype". Anyways, didnt regret the switch. A much more customisable interface and tabbed and security. Though I'm not sure if I might switch back when IE 7.0 is out. Till then :)

I was actually already using Mozilla for quite some time. No special reason made me change.

I started using Firefox at about version 0.5 (don't remember the name it had at that time)

Tabbed browsing seriously impressed me at first, now it's second nature to me. When I'm doing a site now, I can quickly go from page to page, checking the alterations I am doing. This leads me to the extensions or plug-ins. I'm partially color blind and as a developer, this could really affect your work. I've got the color picker and I have a set of developer tools as well, which seriously rock. As I type this I wonder how many times I would have got pop ups with I.E. as opposed to the handful of times with FF, as I've been using FF for nearly a year now. I can't see myself switching back either, even if I.E. comes with tabs and all the rest of options that have made me a enjoy and use FF. Now with that recently dropped FireTune, FF hums along even sweeter than before. There's no turning back at this point, FireFox is where it's at!

tabbed browsing, mainly.

If I have to use IE for whatever reason, I keep middle-clicking links to open them in new tabs, and Ctrl+T, too.

Oh, lack of ActiveX and adblock.
