What made you switch?

Cool :) ^What's W3C? Also, does anyone else feel what I said about it taking very long to load up?

1. Tabbed Browsing

2. Plugins

3. More secure

tabbed browsing, less spyware, extensions, themes, singlewindow, popupblocker.

Those sum up most of them for me.. and the UI is more friendly as well...

Tabbed browsing

Option to change theme

Extenstions (all-in-one gesture)

No active X support so I don't have to worry about spyware and stuff like that.

At the time I had grown sick and tired of the amount of spyware getting through IE so I switched to Firefox without knowing too much about it.

But what appealed to me were the small things included such as tabs and themes.

I don't think I'd ever use IE again even with the Tabs or themes... just like Firefox and that's that.

I changed to firefox because the huge amount of viruses I got from surfing on porn sites:D First I tried opera, didn't like it at all because of all that bloat that comes with it. When I heard about Phoenix (pre-Firefox) I tested it and been using it since. So basicly I started using it when phoenix alpha 0.3 came out. (When was that?). At some point I also tried K-Meleon. It was nice, but since it didnt have extension support, so it was seriously lacking some needed (and still need).

Wow, this is amazing..I started using FF yesterday, and already there are two feature that I doubt I can part with now:

1. Tabbed browsing :woot:

2. I don't know what this featured is called, but the bookmarks that you configure to have under the adress bar are SO USEFUL!! At first, I had the stock ones "hotmail, getting started" and such, and I thought they were annoying (hehe, didn't know I could modify them). No that I removed those and put in my favorite websites, it is too cool. Plus this whole "Theme" system is pretty awsome...I already found a theme that goes perfectly with my VS :D

One thing I have to think about though: if IE7 included tabbed browsing and these bookmarks, would I go back? Well, I just might...Would you guys do so as well?

EDIT: I found Adblock...screw IE, nothing'll make me go back :D Wow, this extension is so useful its not even funny :woot:

Security and Extensions are the major components that has attracted me to Firefox. I first used version .06 or whatever it was (just after it was renamed to Firefox from Firebird).

Curiosity, really. I had everything I have now with AvantBrowser, but I was curious about the hype surrounding Firefox. Also, before I started building myself, it satisfied the geek addiction in me to download something new every day.

I switched for the tabs because I was using dialup at the time and liked being able to have pages load while I read the page I was on. Then I got broadband and still liked using tabs because it just made things a lot more orgainzed for me.

FF has always made my computer feel sluggish though, especially how I use browsers, which is basically leaving them open all the time because my computer is on all the time. When I'd resume from standby, FF would start using tons of CPU and its window always seems to redraw very slowly (I won't even get into restoring it from being minimized). So eventually I switched back to using IE in the form of Maxthon, which is fairly decent.

I like to be honest, at first it was the hype. But when I started using it I was not even sure I liked it. I was like ok works, but nothing special about it. Then I started playing around with extensions (adblock was my first) and I'm hooked on extensions.

The use of extensions is endless. I've heard how other browsers have them too. But for whatever reason there isn't very many of them to choose from for the other browsers. It's by far my favorite part of Firefox. And until IE or others has them, I will NOT be going back.

Even if it didn't have tab browsing, there would be an extension for it :D

Quick question for all of you: is there anyway to make the Bookmark Toolbar have two lines? Its just I want to put a few more websites in there and they don't all fit on one line. Maybe an extension will do this? TIA.

Great! Thanks a lot for that! Now im only missing one thing: you know some hyperlinks, that when you click on them they start in a a new FF window? How could I make those open in a new tab by default?

sort your toolbar bookmarks into folders..

then you can have folders that open into 100's of bookmarks, instead of the toolbar holding only a dozen..

and a good speed boost can be had by using the Firefox preloader

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/

also add this to your FF shortcut: /prefetch:1

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

and your new windows

Tools/Options/Advanced/Tabbed Browsing

select open links in a new tab

That's great :) Im loving the whole folders thing...however, I can't "drag" them into place (like to change the order of the folders). In the Bookmark Manager, I can sort of drag them, but the stay in the same place :s Like, as I drag them, a little gray line appears, as though it were the posiition it was being dragged to, but when I let go, the Folder doesn't move :s

Edit: I don't think my question is very clear....im gonna post a pic to see if I can explain myself better:

Picture of My problem:

You see the folders in the tooldbars? I'd like to change their order, but I can't seem to do so by dragging them into place, not even in the Manager. Any help? :s

It actually took me quite awhile to get used to FF i must have installed it and uninstalled it quite afew times before deciding to stick with it. Tabbed Browsing was one of the reason and also the fact u can actually choose which extensions you want as well.

The fact that each new window in IE would not open maximised

Since using it I have discovered loads of other reasons why I should have switched but that was the main reason to start with.

i changed to firefox on my server(with win server 2003), because it doesn't ask me like IE (do you want to add this site... :pinch: ). Firefox works great on my linux redhat machine.
