eXsub
Hi there, i've always liked opera but a few things recently have really put me off. For one, i just downloaded the new version (8.01) hoping it would fix some problems i had been recieving from 8.00 beta. Well, sadly they hadn't been fixed. These problems are as follows. first, i just went on deviantart to find some winamp skins, i find a whole bunch i'd like to take a closer look at and use the middle click so they open in a backgrond tab. I click around 24 of them, and they all begin to load up. i let opera load them for a while and come back to it. I use the right mouse button and the scroller to browse over them. I then carry on and close a few i dont like the look of, but wait! it's not closing them. Hmm this is funny, i try again and close a few others but none of them appear to be closing. I decide to give up and just browse the rest of them even though i have some unwanted tabs which are taking up crucial space for navigation, but it appears some have no loaded up. I check my netlimiter to see if its going to load them and there is nothing recieving/sending. I get p****** off and decide to close opera, and here i am now. Also a few other things -- How do i set it so that a new page doesn't steal focus and automatically switch what tabs i'm on just because it's finished loading the page? Another thing, I enjoy how many skins you can get for it, but as i really like my current visual style i'd like it to take over opera's interface. Thanks, if anyone can advise me on whats going wrong i'd love to hear it. {EDIT} FTP Is still barley supported, either no plugins to enhance either. Ward57
Opera doesn't close pages after you've read them and move on to another page. You can close a tab by Ctrl-W, middle clicking or right-clicking and choosing close. Pages stealing the focus is sometimes due to Javascript. There are options in the preferences Tools >> Preferences >> Advanced tab >> Content section >> Javascript options button. Uncheck everything there and see if this behaviour persists. You can choose the Windows Native skin from the menu Tools>>Appearance. Opera will then use Windows GUI styles and colours.

But i've yet to find out why it's not closing tabs when i middle click them/click the X on the tabs etc.
Ward57
Thats odd. Middle clicking most definitely works. Unless you use a Logitech mouse which has its own idea of how the middle mouse button works. If you do have a Logitech or otherwise, check your mouse settings to see if the middle button is actually enumerating the middle button and not some manufacturer specific addition. I had to do this for my MX700.
eXsub
No, it's not the mouse. It's the program, it stalls for around 4 minutes when it has around 24 tabs open with each page using the css code for the webpage. Look, go here. http://browse.deviantart.com/ click every single one ( 24 of them ) and wait until they load. then browse around them and try to close them, you will soon see they do now close and have to wait around 4 minutes for opera to un-crash as it seems before you can really close the tabs. I've tested this 4 times, does it each time.
Zxian
I just did that.... opened a new Window (Ctrl+Alt+N) and then went to that site. Middle clicked every link on the front page and waited for them all to load. Then middle clicked on every tab to close everything... and now I'm back here. No problems whatsoever. Have you tried completely reinstalling Opera (including clearning out the data in the Application Data folder)?
flak
i just opened all 24 of them, also with a few neowin windows open, and had no problem whatsoever

It sounds like your problems are being caused by upgrading a beta release to a final (which is not recommended.) Try uninstalling the installation you're having problems with and do a clean install. Hopefully that will fix your close-tabs problem.

megamanXplosion
Yeah, it sucks. That's why you should always install betas to their own directory and only upgrade final releases (7.54 -> 8.0 -> 8.01) ;)

+unabatedshagie Subscriber¹ Posted July 16, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 16, 2005 As megaman said it's not really advisable to install a final over a beta, this is probably where alot of your problems are coming from. As you can see I'm having no problems opening and closing deviantart pages. On this screenshot I have 36 Deviantart pages open, they have all loaded fully and correctly and they all closed when I closed them as you can see from screenshot 2. screenshot 1: screenshot 2: You don't really need to uninstall opera (opera only uses the registry for information in the add/remove programs and file assosiations), just move (not copy) the profile directory and open opera, opera will create a new profile directory when you start it. I would recommend just copying your opera6.adr (boolmarks) back over and perhaps your skins, the rest would be better to be redone from scratch.
