1800+ == 1150MHz???????

Two questions...

Got my 1800+ in, everything working, except for 1 little problem.... It registers as an 1150MHz on my bios screen and in Windows as well... Is there any way to solve this? I was thinking maybe flashing the bios would help it. I have a Gigabyte GA7DXR+ for my motherboard.

Question two is...is 52C-57C an acceptable range for my 1800+? I went with no t-paste after a big debate, but when I looked at my heatsink, it had a sticky pad on the bottom to ensure contact, so I went without t-paste. Should I go with another cpu fan or is this an ok temperature? :ermm:

AMD is very Deceptive with their newer chips... An Athlon 1800+ doesn't mean that it's an 1.8GHz chip...

Yeah, something is screwy, because the motherboard should POST with the PR rating. Mine boots up and says XP 1700+. Oh, and FYI, my actual mhz is around 1.4 ghz, so something is configured wrong somewhere. Try a bios update.

yaeh u need to change ur bios settings, and btw when u install windows XP u have to set it at 1150 because if u dont the install will freeze halfway through

ok well first off what motherboard do you have. id say mostl likely your multiplier is set to 11.5*100 so you get the 1150 and no its not just some screwy amd configuration. it will run better than an 1800 when you set your front side bus to 133. the performance rating is not touted as actual speed, its there cause too many people think megahertz matter, heres the thing athlons do more per clock cycle than pentiums. yet pentiums can run more clock cycles and that gives them an edge on the whole performance thing now. so it helps to have a knowledge basis before just sputtering out that amd is screwy.

ok so you may have to just simply change a jumper. i know that my epox 8k3a has a jumper that is set to 100 cpu speed which means that by default its set for my 1800xp to be 1150 mhz real, but when you change the front side bus to 133 by that jumper you get the face value that makes it an 1800+ you get the 1.533 ghz. now when you want to get into it you can overclock that to make it real nice and sweet. but id say read up and wait on all that. most likely youll need a new heat sink and fan too. cause ill just assume you got the dinky box one.

pm me if you need more help, i should get back to you pretty soon

ok and for me the bios will read it out as a performance rating and so will windows. when you overclock to a new performance rating level they change that too. so when one hits 1.6ghz it reads as an xp 1900. its not the actual cpu speed. you can get that from other programs. ie motherboard monitor

nohoy is very correct

anyways....

i had a 1600xp+

and i installed it turned my system on

it read nothing like 1600XP+

i had tog o through my BIOS/CMOS settings and change my FSB to 133 and then it read 1600XP+

but if u over clock your cpu its funny

on the POST screen it would say 1700 xp +

say if u over cloked it a bit and when u go into windows and then go to system propers>hardware on the cu propertis it doesnt know which company the cpu is made by eheh

anyways its just your fsb so change itt

If 52-57C is under a full load (100% cpu usage) for a fairly long duration (say, an hour), then you're fine. Now, if it's idling at 52-57C when you aren't doing anything (~0% cpu usage, also for an hour or so), then you might have a problem and should consider finding a better cooling solution (like getting a new p4 huhu. jk amd fans...).

This is the correct answer...

U need a BIOS update there my boy, if a mobo can't run an 1800+ chip it will set it down to FSB 100 which is what your getting, So update ya mobo, set it back to 133 if it doesn't do it automatically and everything will be fine :D

If you have an old bios, then this answer is correct too.
