daoutlawz
ok, i was just wondering how to unlock your FPS in 3d Games. i just bought a gforce4mx440 and my FPS in any game is locked at woteva my monitors refresh rate is.. for example, counter-strike: monitor Refresh Rate = 100Hz fps = 100fps gta3: monitor refresh rate = 100Hz fps = 100fps and i know that the vid card that i bought should do well ova 100fps. can someone please tell me of a program or some thing that i can do to get around this or to turn it off.. btw im using Windows98 thanx
BananaMan
That's VSync, isn't it? (Could be wrong). Grab a tweaker and disable it and you should be okay. The tweaker in the software news will probably do: http://neowin.net/comments.php?category=so...oftware&id=5165

I don't own a GeForce (yet :D) so I'm only saying this from vague knowledge, but from my understanding some detonators won't let you turn vsync off even if the tweaker you use says it's off (I could so easily be wrong, don't take my word for this). You could also possibly be using a poor tweaker that doesn't really do the job. Hopefully someone with more knowledge with VSync in GeForce cards will see this thread, sorry I couldn't be of much help. Good luck!
gigatexel
Which drivers are you using? I've stuck with 28.32 as they work best on my system. I've noticed that sometimes the settings for vsync and others won't stick if you change them through display properties. I'm still a fan of NVMax though the guy stopped updating it
daoutlawz
yeh im using the same drivers, and i turned it off in display properties and i used rivatuner to check it, and it is off
Nude Rooster
I know that some games have frame limiters on them. I think quake shipped with it capped at 100 and SOF2 did. There are console commands to change these limiters. The only one I know the command for is MOH:AA because that is the only game I play. The command is com_maxfps XXX the X's being the number of max frames you want to allow. I am almost positive this is the case with those games, search the net for a maxfps command for the game in question.
sphere
100fps! i think that is enough. your eye can't tell the difference between 70 and 100 fps.
Nude Rooster
Just to clarify my last comment, it is based soley off my experience in MOHAA. I am assuming it is the same on the other games all things constant, and rumors and posts I have seen in forums.
Alien Venom
First of all, if your monitor's refresh rate is 100 Hz, it can only display 100 frames per second. 1 Hz corresponds to 1 time per second. So a normal 60 Hz monitor would only be able to display 60 FPS and so on. So even if you did get around the limit on your video card, even if you got 200 frames per second, at 100 Hz, you would be only seeing 100 frames anyway. So the extra frames are pointless. However, I boost up that resolution a bit so you can get into the 60 FPS level, so you can actually see the detail. The human eye only responds to 30 frames anyway. I have a GeForce 3 Ti 500 and in some games, I like to put a limit at 30 frames, and then compare what I see to when I don't have a limit. Even though it may seem pointless, if you set the limit, it actually appears SMOOTHER bceause it concentrates on the 30 frames that your eye can actually see. - AV
[xan]
I think Nude Rooster is right. I had the same problem (but I have a Radeon 8500 card) and Keldyn helped me... I play mostly Quake III so I will tell you what I Keldyn told me to do for this game: in config.cfg (in baseq3 folder I think) there is a line like this seta_maxfps 100 (or something like that) . Change that and you'll have more than 100 FPS. This is for Quake III. I don't know about other games...

I see the blabber about the human eye only seing 30fps all over the internet. But (maybe it is just me) I think a person has to be stoned to not be able to tell the difference from 30fps to 100fps, the diffence in smoothness is plain as day to me. True you aren't going to see anything over your monitor refresh rate either, any higher is bonzo but its all about power isnt it. I try and run the highest rezo possible keepin 70 fps or so to get the nicest detail yet maintaining smoothness. The other reason for these limiters is internet play, if you are cruising through a hallway at 150 fps and you get a spike or a lag and your fps drops to 40, the bigger the drop in fps, the bigger skip in play you see, caused me a few deaths in FPS games. I actually limit mine lower than 100, at about 70 just to avoid those skips in lags.
