eXsub
Below are deeper explanations to the feature enhancements stated: Once you close a tab, the tab that it automatically selects is the one on the right (next to it) FTP support! - Allowing you to login to ftp sites aswell as uploading/downloading files (e.g. drag n drop) Once opera launched and launched once more, opera instead of creating a new tab opens a new window, like firefox On searching for keyword, the search highlights every single one found straight away in yellow, and continues to do so from every other tab open Enjoy, and hopefully we can all get together to request such features and to make Opera a better browser than any of the others. :) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::UPDATE:#1 I?ve posted all these points to the feature request on opera?s official forum and i?ve received 10+ replies, I?ve also posted the number of votes from this board to help show how many people would like these points improved/added. ( so new-comers visiting this thread, please do vote -- it will make a difference! ) Cheers :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Edited July 20, 2005 by eXsub
+unabatedshagie Subscriber¹ Posted July 16, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 16, 2005 Why are you using opera? All you seem to be doing is bitching about how opera doesn't do things like firefox. Why don't you go back to using firefox? Anyway to your sugestions This can be done already via keyboard shortcut, mouse gesture or create a button. You can log into ftp sites using opera, opera will never support dragging and dropping of files as it's not a file manager. IMO this is pointless, you want a new window use a mouse gesture, keyboard shortcut or create a button to do it. As has been said before in your other thread there is a userjs which does this, it only works in the current tab, this feature might be useful but I doubt I would ever use it. eXsub
Don't ruin this thread, i've alreadu submitted these features to the feature request section on operas official website, i suggest you calm down and to think twice about posting comments to me like that again. eXsub
Why are you using opera? All you seem to be doing is bitching about how opera doesn't do things like firefox. Why don't you go back to using firefox? Im not bitching about opera, im helping improve it for all. Why do you have to make such a fuss? You can log into ftp sites using opera, opera will never support dragging and dropping of files as it's not a file manager. What do you mean "never" nothing is impossible, and this situation it can easily be done - just because you dont like this feature doesn't mean everyone will have the same feelings, so stop being so closed-minded. IMO this is pointless, you want a new window use a mouse gesture, keyboard shortcut or create a button to do it. Yes well you keep saying that, but let other people aggree it would be a good feature to impliment - this isn't an argument.. this is a feature request so stop gettin so wound up over something that is pointless to complain about. As has been said before in your other thread there is a userjs which does this, it only works in the current tab, this feature might be useful but I doubt I would ever use it. Suit yourself, don't use these features it's totally up to you.

CrisCr0ss
if people requested everyfeature then opera would become bloated. As many people are happy with the current way it is. Now im not saying your wrong to post it, im saying what your looking for are minor custimizations which may suite your needs but not the general public. Now you can go ahead call me a fanboy or w/e you wish. If you want to customize it for your own needs you can't that is the drawback of opera. You want to customize it to your wishes then use a browser that supports extensions as thats your only way of achieving such a thing. eg: firefox Maxthom

megamanXplosion
Once you close a tab, the tab that it automatically selects is the one on the right (next to it) Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Cycle Pages: Cycle in page bar order. FTP support! - Allowing you to login to ftp sites aswell as uploading/downloading files (e.g. drag n drop) You can already login to FTP servers and download from them. The only thing that is missing is the ability to upload. I feel that it could contribute to interface bloat because it would not work reliably without binary/ascii selection for uploading files, CHMODing to set permissions, etc. I think that a dedicated FTP program would be more appropriate for the task of uploading files. Once opera launched and launched once more, opera instead of creating a new tab opens a new window, like firefox I disagree with this suggestion. Isn't the purpose of a tabbed browser to keep all of the pages in a single window? On searching for keyword, the search highlights every single one found straight away in yellow, and continues to do so from every other tab open User JavaScript (userjs) should be able to do this to a single tab, like mentioned earlier. I don't really see what is wrong with the inline find (type "/" and search for the text you want and F3 to cycle through the results - type "." and search for links that have the text you want and F3 to cycle through the results.) Galley
Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Cycle Pages: Cycle in page bar order. 586224523[/snapback] I believe that only applies when you right-click and scroll through the list of tabs with the mouse wheel. No, they do not work and it has been proved - hence why im posting them to improve them. if people requested everyfeature then opera would become bloated. As many people are happy with the current way it is. Yes, this isn't a feature request, this is a feature enhancement request. Now im not saying your wrong to post it, im saying what your looking for are minor custimizations which may suite your needs but not the general public. Hang on, If that was so i wouldn't bother posting here would i?.. i would have just walked along to the official site and personally say " i want these features because i want them that way" Im speaking for the high majority of people here. Now you can go ahead call me a fanboy or w/e you wish. If you want to customize it for your own needs you can't that is the drawback of opera. Nothing is impossible as i've said before, and opera's plugins can enable some of these features, there's also the official developers who have no limits in which they want to impliment. You want to customize it to your wishes then use a browser that supports extensions as thats your only way of achieving such a thing.eg: firefox Maxthom As i've said before, it's not just MY wishes. it's a hell of a lot of people thank you, and no i'm not going to switch just because a few features i'd like enhanced arn't already. Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Cycle Pages: Cycle in page bar order. You can already login to FTP servers and download from them. The only thing that is missing is the ability to upload. I feel that it could contribute to interface bloat because it would not work reliably without binary/ascii selection for uploading files, CHMODing to set permissions, etc. I think that a dedicated FTP program would be more appropriate for the task of uploading files. You can already login to FTP servers and download from them. Yes, doing that is a nightmare, all this ftp://435.234.248:login:username/ Crap - most people want a simple manager or type in box that displays "username, port, passowrd" etc. Yes, " think that a dedicated FTP program would be more appropriate for the task of uploading files." A dedicated FTP program will always be better than an implimented one right?.. well, perhaps we should all use different programs to do other things, u know like.. using a bittorrent client to do bititorrent donwloads, and using a different email program to recieve emial. and using an IRC program to chat. But wait, we come accross a problem. That problem being, abserlute bloody hassle and fluffing around with other programs that one program to do. Dont you see?.. I know it can get bloated but there's are many programs out there in different situations which have many many features which don't bloat the program up. Hell, if Opera is going to impliment bittorrent downloads, why can't it impliment FTP support - for those small important uploads? " Isn't the purpose of a tabbed browser to keep all of the pages in a single window?" Yes as i've mentioned previousely, once you have around 20 tabs open, all on the same critieria and you wish to browse a whole other batch of webpages, this is an excellent feature to impliment. "I don't really see what is wrong with the inline find (type "/" and search for the text you want and F3 to cycle through the results - type "." and search for links that have the text you want and F3 to cycle through the results.)" There's nothing wrong with the search as it is now, but the effenciancy can be greatly improved, i know you want to disagree with f***** everything i mention but look at what your saying.. your trying to disagree with enhancements you would benefit from. Unless your a person who does not like the better effency of a webpage searcher, but dont disagree with making things better - your only making Opera worse by doing that. Tools > Preferences > open pages in tabs? No this isn't what im trying to point out, read what i said again. I believe that only applies when you right-click and scroll through the list of tabs with the mouse wheel. There is a custom button you can add to close the current and move to the next. http://nontroppo.org/wiki/CustomButtons#page Close current page & switch to next one (short title) I'd love to know this custom button. please tell me. agreed. i don't understand wanting double launch at all. isn't this why tabs were created in the first place? so you don't have to have 15 different windows open? damn, megamanXplosion said that already. but at least i'm not the only one . Obviousely your not familiar with browsing like quite a lot of other people do. Sure - tabbed browsing is good, but what if i have around 20 tabs open all with gallery images, i then decide that i want another window open at the bottom of the task bar to browse say, information on google. I don't want them both being mixed, and have 40 tabs which i can't hardly navigate. Edited July 17, 2005 by eXsub

ThePast
AciveX is a Microsoft technology, that you for security reasons never will see in Opera. Wikipedia The embedding of ActiveX into the Internet Explorer web browser created a combination of functions that has led to an explosion of computer virus, trojan and spyware infections. These malware attacks mostly depend on ActiveX for their activation and propagation to other computers.

I don't want them both being mixed, and have 40 tabs which i can't hardly navigate. why not use "ctrl+alt+N" to open a new window? Opera CAN do that... I personally see no need to do it "through the icon". Moreover, you can browse your open pages and manage them through the "Windows" panel. On searching for keyword, the search highlights every single one found straight away in yellow, and continues to do so from every other tab open that would be nice :) Yes, doing that is a nightmare, all this ftp://435.234.248:login:username/ Crap - most people want a simple manager or type in box that displays "username, port, passowrd" etc. and this is just like it's in Opera... a box pops up if a ftp site want's some log in info. No one i can tell you that for sure, i can't really be bothered to mess around with apple-like shortcuts like that as i've said before. It's like playing twista with your fingers. So, instead of a 3 key shortcut on your keyboard which is hassle anyway why not have a single click with a mouse button? Isn't that just a wonderful idea eigh? .. yes it is! And perhaps you may think " but my shortcut is on my desktop so i gotta minimize everything" Well, i and a lot of other people have opera on their taskbar as a quick launch. This is why this idea is very strong. and this is just like it's in Opera... a box pops up if a ftp site want's some log in info. Thats strange and you may be correct, but i've just tried it on my ftp and it doesn't work at all. I quote the following error. How do i remove the little X on each of the tabs?.. since they are useless now.. EDIT: Not cool, just found out a problem with that close button, when there isn't a tab to the right of it, it selected the one to the far left, instead of the one left of it. :( but i guess thats something ill have to live with. It's also a shame i can no longer use my middle mouse button (scroller) to close tabs, otherwise they dont react the way i want them to, ( the standard non wierd way )
