Icons For HTML Files Not Displaying

Recommended Posts

My HTML file types (html, htm) are both not displaying their icons. I've gone into File Types and tried reassigning IE to them and changing their icons. However, in both File Types and while browsing my folders, the icons for these file types just won't appear. I've also tried repairing my icons with tweakuix64, but to no avail.

I've also noticed that some my icons on the window buttons in the taskbar are screwy lookin. I don't know what's going on. It's pretty much been acting this way since I installed. Windows XP just looked crappy as a whole on first boot. Some of the stuff (ie. the start button, icons), just doesn't look clean as I remember it.

Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this?

change the icon in file types.

Open My Computer

Select Tools/options

Select file types tab

Find the appropriate extension and change the icon.

You may want to back up your registry before hand, in case you make any other changes.

It might be an idea to use Tweakui to rebuild your icon cache, icon problems can be caused by it becoming corrupt.

No offense, but did you even read my post?

then thsi is adifferent problem

i had this with xp 32-bit forever

if you install a million different programs and each of them chagnes the icon, somewhere aolong the way, teh icon will freeze and get screwy. for example, i installed direamweaver, golive, frontpage, firefox, miozilla, intenrnet explorer, netscape and opera

my html buttons no longer worked... same as yours, only mine happeened for a logical reason

did you try system restore

From what i can make out you are saying that the ocns are looking blury or something along those lines.

I had this problem too, but there are two things you can try to resolve this issue:

Enable/disable Cleartype fonts. This is usually only used for LCD screens

If this does not resolve the issue, try downloading Tweak UI from the MS website and using the enhanced Cleartype options on there. This one worked for me.

First, this is a clean install of windows x64, so it came like this.

Second I do have an LCD so I need ClearType or it'll look like crap (even worse than the icons are now).

Third, I can't use Microsoft's TweakUI because it's only for 32bit. Right now, I'm using an unofficial TweakUI x64. But standing in it's defense, windows looked crappy before I used it. I can't find any ClearType options in the x64 version though (I don't ever remember TweakUI32bit having it either).

Edit: The icons aren't blury, they're unclean, just look at the pic. They're not as clean as others. The shadow on the my documents icon looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old.

I really need this fixed. It's gonna drive me insane.

This is the clear type i am sure. Although it is only meant to be for words it does seem to effect pictures.

There was a cleartype tool in a version of Tweak UI i am sure because i used it when my screen had the same issue... But i dont know about the x64 bit version.

Sorry i cant help any further.

You are in luck!

I programmed a rebuild of all the powerotys for Windows....

There is a real TweakUI 32-Bit that was modded to run on 64 Bit, but all of it Microsoft COde.... I just removed the checks for x64 OS's

ALSO, there is a cleartype utility as realeased by microsoft, that i ahve used on x64 without trouble

Tweak UI for Windows 64-Bit Edition

ClearType Powertoy

TweakUI does NOT come with ClearType

It is a SEPARATE POWERTOY DEVELOPED BY MS AFTER TWEAKUI WAS MADE

Secondly,

ClearType will not fix the shadows, the problem is with the graphcis drivers... Above I had misundertood the question. I apologize.

The MS Drivers for graphics cards have this problem even for 32 bit windows.

Go to ATI or nVidia's websites and dl the respective x64 drivers (assuming you have one or the other, just like everyone else) and INSTALL THEM... That should do hte trick

^*^

best of luck, and be sure to let me knwo if you need anything!

call me stupid!

I jsut read your post again, and JUST realized that you have two problems...

My final advice (for now :p ):

Reinstall Widows x64 (I know, but what can you do?) to fix the Internet Explorer Icons IF and ONLY IF you have tried system restore or if it is not an option

Then follow above advice to get the shadows and markings around icons fixed

THEN Dl the links above for ClearType and TweakUI to get the blurriness resolved

If you dont want your LCD i'd gladly trade my CRT for it :p

rofl, I think I'll be keeping it.

I'll try your TweakUI, although I have been using a TweakUI made for x64 (found at planetamd I believe).

The ClearType is working fine. I really don't think it's gonna screw up icons. Even if it did, I'm not gonna give up ClearType for icons.

As far as the video drivers go, I am using the newest ATI drivers installed not more than a week ago. And if you'll notice that the My Documents button on the Quick Launch bar looks pretty damn good, but the one on the window button and on the window itself looks like crap so I don't think it's the video drivers.

I know this sounds crazy but it seems like only the icons containing pictures of folders are the ones screwing up (ie. My Documents, Folders). And it's only in the window button and window title bar that the screwy shadows occur.

And the html file problem...no way I'm gonna reinstall windows. I worked too hard to everything the way I wanted. I'd think I'd rather live with the OCD than have to do that. Any other ideas would be great.

I understand how you feel, though I personally would throw my PC out of the window, if i thought for once that there was omethign i couldn't fix on it... dedication :p

Is that OCD? I'd call it that, and I don't mind it...

anyway, not reformat and reinstall, just put the cd in the drive, restart, boot from cd, and then press R at the blue prompt to to fix your old install. your settings and drivers will NOT be touched, just the windows registry will be fixed...

    • Innit interesting that there's no metric standard for time?
    • Yeah, but these new clocks aren't going to change the fact that time is an illusion, and vacation time doubly so.
    • Science is almost ready to "redefine the second" with this new research by Sayan Sen Image by Samer Daboul via Pexels In an effort to make keeping time even more accurate, researchers from six European countries joined forces to compare ten ultra-precise optical clocks at the same time — something that’s never been done on this scale before. These clocks, which use lasers to measure how atoms jump between energy levels, are much more accurate than traditional cesium atomic clocks. In fact, optical clocks could lose or gain less than a second over billions of years. To see how closely these clocks agreed with each other, the team ran 38 measurements known as frequency ratios. Four of these had never been done directly before, and many were done with better precision than ever. The experiment helps move us closer to updating how the world defines one second potentially switching from cesium clocks to optical ones. Helen Margolis from the UK’s National Physical Laboratory said, “The accurate time and frequency signals provided by atomic clocks are essential for many everyday technologies like GPS, managing power grids and keeping financial transactions in sync.” Connecting these clocks over long distances was tricky. Scientists used two linking methods: GPS signals from satellites and custom optical fiber cables. GPS was accessible to all clocks but didn’t offer the best accuracy due to noise and signal issues. Fiber links used in France, Germany and Italy offered 100 times better precision but could only cover short distances. For clocks in the same lab, like those in Germany and the UK, short fiber cables helped reduce uncertainty even more. The findings were published in Optica, a journal focused on optical science. The team also looked at how the various frequency ratios compared across the different systems to spot any mismatches or patterns. “These measurements provide critical information about what work is still needed for optical clocks to achieve the precision and reliability required for use in international timekeeping,” said Marco Pizzocaro from Italy’s INRiM. He added that the setup acted like a distributed lab, which could be used for deeper physics research, like searching for dark matter or testing the foundations of physics. Coordinating all ten clocks and keeping them running in sync across six countries took a lot of preparation. Some results didn’t match predictions, but having so many clocks operating together helped spot where things went wrong. “Not all the results confirmed what we expected, and we observed some inconsistencies in the measurements,” said Rachel Godun from NPL. “However, comparing so many clocks at once and using more than one technique for linking the clocks made it easier to identify the source of the problem.” The researchers say more work is needed to cut down measurement uncertainty and make sure these optical clocks stay reliable over time. If they do, these clocks could soon be the ones we use to define time worldwide. As Thomas Lindvall from Finland’s VTT MIKES put it: “With a coordinated set of measurements, it becomes possible to check consistency while also providing more trusted results.” Source: Optica (link1, link2) This article was generated with some help from AI and reviewed by an editor.
