I just got my invite as well, amazingly enough.

To answer your question, Jasper Jugan, the only things I've done were to sign up at the Beta site and sign up for the TechNet newsletter. On Friday I found both a new TechNet email and my Vista beta test message. I'm downloading now.

Well I recieved my invite rather weirdly.. I was one of the few that cashed in on the IIS 7 preview on connect. And then it said welcome to the longhorn, Internet explorer beta... Its funny because I doubt it went to to many people because when i discovered it.. Then people started posting about it.. and I think maybe a hour two hours something like that. It was gone new people tried to get in on it and it was gone. The only downside to my invite, is that it doesnt include 5342, just 5308 and earlier..

I have a connect setup and ive been for a cpl diff betas, and there are about 10-20 other available beta thingers, but theyre irrelevant to me. Any help to get me in??? Invite ID's??? (not sure if thats legal) I'm really trying to avoid the whole torrent issue, but want to try Vista. Thanks - j

Let's get this straight. In order to get into the Windows Vista Technical Beta, you must, no matter what, be nominated by a Microsoft official - at this point. Yes, there are a myriad of other ways to access Windows Vista interim builds; such as MSDN, the TAP, Windows Vista Influentials Program, Windows Vista CTP Program, and others -- but if you want to get into the Technical Beta, where you tend to recieve more builds than any other group you can get into (save for TAP, and other exceptionally-important OEMs who, it is believed, get builds even more frequent but are under strict NDAs.) you must be nominated at this point. That means that anybody getting "invite emails (with invite IDS)" right at this moment, to join the Technical Beta, has somewhere or at some point been nominated by a Microsoft employee. It means that for every invite that is sent out; and thus every nomination given out, a Microsoft employee has looked at whatever application you may or may not have given, and decided in person - its not automated this late in the game.

Also, nobody will give out Invite IDs - they're one time use, and generated by Microsoft. Once you've used it, thats it - its voided.

And let's also re-iterate that the next build that all groups recieve, unless something dramatic occurs, is likely to be Beta 2. And that, my friends, is intended to be public; and you can get into it by signing up for the Microsoft Beta Experience [Newsletter]. It is also implied that when the time comes, you will be able to test Office 2007 Beta 2 through this program. If you're still struggling to get builds of Vista legally, I'd honeslty just wait it out and be patient. Sure, if another set of MSDN blogs by Microsoft employees starts giving out invites, your welcome to try - but tbh, don't bother- just wait unil WinHEC in may, and many upon many people will be satisfied.

i'm in. just recieved my invitation email from microsoft.

btw, i doubt that beta2 will be public from the beginning.. i've read something like, if you sign up now and want your cds shipped to you, you have to wait until beta2 testing commences and beta2 dvds are shipped.

^^ No. You won't get it if you opt out, unless you send an email to the appropriate persons...and even still, its not guaranteed once you've opted out. No, they don't charge you, though.

People who know how to search find the info themselves.

Those that don't.. well, they also don't know how to read stickied/pinned threads or FAQs either. They just start new threads for each question all the time.

It's pinned because last year EVERYONE was making threads "I got in!111" which got really annoying so they were merged and stickied so people didn't do that.
