Senior Citizen Bandit' Strikes Three Southern California Banks

( Laguna Niguel, Calif. -WABC, July 15, 2005) ? In the past week a bank robber known as the Senior Citizen Bandit has hit three Southern California banks, brandishing a gun and ordering tellers to hand over the money, authorities said.

Believed to be in his 60s or 70s, the robber struck most recently on Thursday afternoon in Laguna Niguel. He hit another bank in Seal Beach on Tuesday and a Washington Mutual branch in San Juan Capistrano last week, according to officials.

"The method of operation is exactly the same," said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Another man, called the Old Timer Bandit was killed in May 2004 after leading police on a pursuit. He was in his 60s and was behind multiple bank robberies in Southern California's San Gabriel Valley. He had been suspected of robbing two banks before he was fatally wounded by a police officer.
