M3NF
Ok i start with sorry for the lack of details here, but i am new to peecee, But i recently built a peecee my spec's are..... mother board K7S5A ddram 256 gf4 graphics card XP pro 19inch Logic Monitor CD/RW 40x12x48 and a standard floppy drive The problem i have is that i can not format any floppy disc in my drive, Now i am not sure if it is the drive that is not working or i need new drivers, the drivers that xp give to it do not seam to work, but my partner can format the disc in her drive, So what is the best way to get new drivers without knowing what model floppy it is, or os there a way to find out how to get the spec's on my floppy?. Sorry such a silly question. Thanks to all you that help
aco Veteran Posted June 28, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 28, 2002 Have you looked in the Device Manager for any conflicts or double entries? Have you looked in the event viewer? Have you tried to format a floppy in safe mode?
azazel-
You may want to make sure you plugged in the power cable and the floppy cable correctly. That can sometimes cause problems like this.
JHAres
Checked if the cable are plugged inversed...??? Jon
Given the price of fdd's, I'd say get a new one in. Or put it in a washing machine. Works aparently..!

Jon
There was an article prolly a year back, cant remember where, about some A+ tech (ie not too 'skilled') who decided to try putting old floppy drives (which they instantly replaced instead of tried to fix, given the price) in a washing machine. It seemed to fix quite a few, litterally cleaning the crap out of them i guess. I'm sure a pinch of salt should be involved..
Stryder68
Yes it is true, you can put some floppy, and cd-rom drives (among other devices) in a DISHWASHER and it CAN restore them to working order. You need to let them sit for about a week before trying to use them again. They must be completely dry.....completely. But I do not think this will have any effect on the issue of formating floppies. Off topic to say the least.
Jon
Lol yeah good point, a fdd spinning in a washing machine probably wouldnt do either much good. I sell washing machines, I'm trying to get you all to f*ck urs up ;) (Ok so i dont, I'm just wrong..)
