The next version of Windows finally has an official name: Windows Vista.

The advertising tagline for Vista is "Clear, Confident, Connected: Bringing clarity to your world," according to a video of the announcement posted by Microsoft.

Vista's three design goals include better security, new ways to organize information, and seamless connectivity to external devices, the company said. Microsoft said will provide more detail on Vista features Aug. 3.

Microsoft has also registered the domain name windowsvista.us.

Honestly, it sounds like one of the names that was posted here on Neowin - it's another "Windows 360" or "Windows reloaded" or "Windows ATTITUDE!!!1"-type name that no one ever thought would actually get it past the marketing department for fear of being laughed off the planet. Windows Vista? Of course, if this is genuine, we'll all be raving about how good it is soon I'm sure.

Horrible name for a horrible lookin OS from what I've seen so far.

Hopefully the default XP Visual Styles are included or at least be compatible.
