Question

Have you taken your computer in for mantinence (sp?) or to get parts replaced and got questioned about software such as Photoshop or Dreamweaver installed, especially if your career is not involved with the programs?

Just thought this would be a cool poll. this is especially for ppl who have Dells, Gateways etc....

has it happened to you or do you think it may?

As in "I'm indirectly implying your Photoshop is warezed"

If someone questions u about Photoshop or anything just say "It's a hobby of mine". They won't go digging to see if u got it warezed

Just took in my computer last week, nothing was questioned. Although they did do a partial install of XP home over my pro, for reasons undefined.

EDIT: Oh yeah, when I got it back, I checked how long the computer was up while it was away, it turns out they only spent 7 minutes on it :s (thanks uptime.exe)

i dont understand what gives them the right to do that, just like i dont think they should question you, i mean it should be under privacy.... i upgraded to XP from 98 a bit ago, but Gateway is not aware of this, who wants to bet they ask me tons of piracy related questions?? :p

I once rang up about a hardware fault (the BIOS was resetting itself to defaults, after telling me it had been currupted and needed to be reset) and they asked me...

Have you got any software on your PC that came off a CDR? or you downloaded from the Internet?

Although they also refused to help me anymore because i upgraded the OS from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. The advise they gave me was stupid anyway, he was going to have me running scan disk (from DOS? this is why he wanted Windows 98 on) and a virus scan (which i told him i had already done and had the latest AV software running on autoprotect since day one anyway). This was related to the BIOS how i wonder? ;) Silly guy had to keep me waiting on the phone anyway for about 5 mins while he found out if he could help me or not since i upgraded my OS. His advise? the pearl of wisdom?

Can you format your HD and reinstall Windows 98, and phone back.

I can't repeat what i said ;)
