Fedorpheux
i thought it was illegal to marry anybody under 18....not for moral issues so much as for the fact that you can't sign a legal document until you're 18 (same reason you cant get a credit card until you're 18)...unless maybe the girl had parental consent.....which is even more f'ed up.... :pinch:
Zeitgeist
This stuff was pretty normal in the 1800s, Edgar Allen Poe married his 13-year old cousin.

etempest
The girl is 7 month pregnant and living in another state away from parents. If they put the husband away for the max 50 years, I hope her family is going to take her back she is still legally a minor aka Job, Income, etc. If there so bent on fixing this situation, tackle the marriage laws not the effect, that's right he can't. it's in another state. So lets make examples of them since I can't do anything with Kansas Law since there in Nebraska.

beardly
A college guy hanging around an elementary school to pick up chicks. Kansas really needs to rewrite that law. There's no reason that anyone should be married that young.
glassofwater
Have you seen the survey results from that story? Currently 57% think the state shouldn't prosecute, do that many people really condone paedophilia? Married or not she's a kid.

Hell-In-A-Handbasket
then the parents should have prosecuted when it happened, not another state MONTHS AFTER they were MARRIED Have you seen the survey results from that story? Married or not she's a kid. 586277089[/snapback]
TruBD
i didnt read the whole article, but he legally married her, doesnt that mean hes legally allowed to have sex with her? or am i forgetting something here? anyway some countries to this day still marry at an early age. my grandparents got married when they were 10-11 years old. my grandma now is 86 years old. FlibbyFlobby
If the parents consented to the marriage, and dont mind their daughter being with a 22 year old and the daughter is ok with it then I wonder really whos business is this anyway? I personally dont agree with 13 and 22 year olds doing their thing but if they're married legally and they're happy leave them too it.
