have they implemented vector graphics yet? And The full Aero interface / Avalon hasnt been included yet right?

The vector graphics are in there, although they're obviously just placeholder graphic files and don't look that great, IMO. But the infinite scaling icon size feature is pretty damn awesome.

There's so many improvements in this OS it's going to be brutal going back to XP over the next year it feels so behind now.

I'm so glad I bought a KVM. I'm putting it to good use now. It's now to easily switch between Longhorn and XP. I'm trying to use Longhorn as much as I can.

Vista runs terribly slow for me as well. In fact, it slows down the clock to less than half-speed. I can't move my mouse smoothly either-- it jumps all around the screen. It seemed to detect all my hardware just fine (except my Linksys Instant Gigabit ethernet card--but that wouldn't do anything). Running it on a GeForce MX 4000. Little old, but it does the trick for me for now. I know it's beta software and this is expected, but it'd still be nice to get this running. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes rebooting. It's weird because on XP I dont have to reboot if I change my static IP but Vista asked to reboot the system after I changed the IP.

here's a stupid question..where in Vista did u change ur static Ip?

and by the way I dont connect to a router I connect directly to my broadband modem..

ok, I'm noticing a bit of a weird problem.

I remember somebody mentioning that Intel's SpeedStep drivers don't work on Vista so that pretty much explained to me why Vista was always showing my processor running at full tilt.

However, I'm now in XP and I notice that it is also showing a maxed out speed. The fan is a tiny bit louder and the computer is insanely faster.

I'm actually quite enjoying the speed boost but I'm wondering if the Pentium M's were specifically designed to not work at top speed the entire time. Does any one know if this is going to be a problem?

Also, I'm thinking that Vista is actually at a reasonable speed because of the lack of SpeedStep. Any thoughts?

The CPU is designed to operate at its maximum frequency, you just gotta check for yourself that whether running the thing at full speed/full load heats up your laptop too much

arrgh, well i got it installed but i cant install the system drivers or the chipset drivers (dell 8600c) so i guess i will have to live with super slow speeds throughout the  testing.

I have the same laptop, I dont remember if it's C but it's the last one and I dont have slow speeds my CPU is always at full speed.

I've seen tons of screenshots so far.? But what I haven't seen is screenshots of two things I'm curious about:

- The Logon Screen

- The Open/Save file dialog

Could someone be kind enough to provide screenshots of these?

I dont think its possible to take screenshot of the logon screen. I have however captured it right after i typed password and hit enter. It looks like the picture below, just with the win xp style user list. For your convenience I also show the save dialog, and as a bonus you can see an error message too :fun::

Question: Does anyone know why it doesnt work to use SERVERNAME - i have to use IP when connecting to other PCs... \\server\ does not work, \\10.0.0.1\ works...:

Also, isnt it possible to map a network drive to a drive letter? It only adds a shortcut to the full path?

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but ATI already has beta releases of Vista compatible drivers. I don't know how long those have been up but wow that's some quick work by ATI.

Actually, if someone has tried them...how do you install this? It's just a bunch of .dll and .sys files.

EDIT: Nevermind. Instructions are on the ATI site. Should've checked first.

    • Those persons has complete control over the internet right now. They do see everything what we do regardless.
    • Everyone and every country who doesn't support Israel's aggression, terrorism and hypocrisy is their immediate enemy. You can definitely see how many innocent people they are killing almost everyday. In fact they're the actual Neo-Nazi who holds Hitler's ideology.
    • Just pull a 4Chan and ignore the UK gov, or better troll them. It's not like they can enforce the fine across border.
    • It has NEVER been shown that all these overreaching creepy methods of surveillance have ever saved a child or prevented a terrorist attack. Not a single one. It's the kind of people like you who just wave it away as "paranoid conspiracy" that makes big tech and governments this creepy mass data hoarding entities. Not only that, 3/4 of these surveillance ideas undermine the very foundations of safe online communication because they always want to have a backdoor in everything "just in case" they might need it to... checks the notes "save the children". If you put a backdoor into encryption chain there is no encryption chain anymore. You know what encryption keeps safe? Your medical records, your online shopping and credit card during payment, your photos in the cloud, your emails, your passwords, everything. There is ZERO guarantee only the good guys will use it. And if you think police suddenly can't apprehend child abusers because of encryption, Epstein was running his entire sex trafficking ring using GMail which is not even encrypted end to end. Or to make matters even worse, USA has a **** and a good buddy of Epstein as a president. Absolutely NOTHING has been done to address it. Maxwell just got a better "hotel" room as a reward. This clearly shows how they absolutely don't really care about the children but they care about the absolute control over all of us. And you're defending them here. Good grief. On top of constant attempts to insert backdoors into encryption chain, the entire age verification nonsense is again entirely over reaching, creepy, invades everyone's privacy with premise of yet again "protecting the children" instead of demanding device makers to provide simple and powerful tools for PARENTS to control how their children use devices and what they do on them. THIS would be the way, not the stupid age verification for everyone. Imagine if government would be dictating companies how their phones work and not the company's IT department. The parents should be the IT department to their children. And for everyone excusing "they are not knowledgeable enough" buuuuuulsheat. We live in a digital age, if you have children now, you absolutely are well versed in digital everything at least to basic extent. If you're not, how do you even function in these times then? Reality is that parents are just lazy and don't want to deal with this. They want government to raise their kids because they are too busy scrolling stupid Instagram and Tiktok or some bs.
    • You could make the argument that K should not be included, but FC, the fried chicken, is not the framework, it's the product. It's the Paint in Paint.NET. A closer analogy is if KFC included the name of the deep fryer they used. HennyPennyFC.
