If everything you tried are not working, you probablly would consider to increase you memroy...the minimum memory to run vista is 512MB.....so iit would be better for you with 1GB or more memory...hope this helps :D

Its onboard, however its compaw so no cd for me haha

I can't get it to work correctly. I get BAD_POOL_CALLER blue screens, or when I run it under VGA base mode I can't use D3D at all. Seems to me like either PCIe isn't readily supported or something of the sort. I guess I won't be using it until Beta 2 or whenever better drivers are released :(

I know most of you have been using Vista beta 1 for quite sometime now, but I have been busy with some of my college work. Finally found some time off last night and went to try out the Vista beta 1. Here are my initial thoughts after installation:

Good Things:

1.) A really sleek looking installation, with even shadow under mouse pointer. It dint seem like it was working in vanilla display mode....

2.) A very simple and clean installation process. Even a 6-yr old can do it !!

3.) Really fast boot process and clean logon loading.

Bad Things:

1.) Didnt find a timer to tell me how loong more the installation would take to complete. This mayb coz its a beta. But frankly, a timer is among the GUI basics for good interactive programming.

2.) Aero Glass still has a lot of bugs. One which really caught the eye was where u see a small title bar appearing before the entire window appears.

I'll keep doing extensive testing of Vista and keep posting my thoughts on how the OS actually felt to me.

Well, I have spent at least 18 hours on trying to install it on my laptop and It just will not work. Oh well. I could install it on my desktop but, I seriously do not want to change what I have set up, way too much of my work. All my hardware I have double checked to make sure it is supported only thing I am not sure about is my Intel Pro Wireless 2200 pci. I am seriously upset and frustrated at this.

I have no idea what the issue is, all my hardware is supported I even logged in and redownloaded the ISO thinking it may have been a bad burn or download.

My friend has a DELL Laptop and I passed him my DVD so that he could also test Vista. He had the same prob of hard locks in install. What solution I found was u have to disable a few things from your BIOS. Try doing the failsafe settings and also disabling ACPI from BIOS. If there are other battery settings try disabling it as well. After the install re-enable and install the drivers. Im not sure whats causing the lockups, coz I aint got the laptop while installation, but I advised my frnd to do all those stuff and the install went on easily.

I just gave it a test drive yesterday. Honestly it's not very buggy, and pretty stable (didn't crash once for me), but extremely slow. The Aero skin is beyond sexy, and I love some of the ways it manages things like disk drives, and the new Control Panel, but like I said, it's just far too slow right now.

Hopefully, and most likely, it'll be faster on the final release.

And here, have a screenshot:

My specs, for the record:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+

512mb RAM

80gb HDD

ATI Radeon 9700 (128mb)

I just saw the best "new feature" in Vista. When you right-click an icon, the drop-doen menu has an option that says Find Target. Now you don't have to go to Properties, then Find Target, then close properties. :D

well spotted, that is cool :)

So I just got my Windows Vist Build 5112 from msdn. And I want to run dual boot but I have a little problem.

c: drive 10gb with win xp on it only

d: drive 50gb only movies and music in it.

g: drive 60gb with all apps on it.

Now see I don't wanna formet anything and I wanna know can I install win vista on my g: drive with out formatting and just installing it with the other apps.

And I have another question. Will my c: drive be hidden when I'm logged on to vista with my g: ... and the other way around?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also this is my harware list... tell me if i'll encounter any big problems like lagging and etc...

P4 3.0c OC to 3.6Ghz

P4P800-E Deluxe

120gb Maxtor 8mb

Asus fx5700 256mb

Has anyone actually tried Windows Vista yet and is it stable enough to run as a main OS? I am currently running XP Pro. But I'd like to know if I can use it as my main system. Would it be able to run ZoneAlarm Pro 6 Internet Security Edition?

Ok I tried to install it today right, but after the blue screen where it says "installing..." it just restarts and goes back to that screen and just keeps restarting over and over. did i get a bad copy of vista or what? i downloaded the 2.41GB version. Is there something that works?

I am from Colombia and from here it is very difficult to obtain an account in msdn.

I need to Download the new Windows Vista.

Someone who could help??

You do not need to download Vista. No one here is allowed to give you a link to it anyways. If you cant find it yourself, chances are you shouldn't be installing it anyways. It would cause more problems that you'd have to come here and ask about, and no one needs that.

You can survive one more year of XP, trust me.

    • When I was a teen, I actually believed that the government used to be always be the bad guy. However as an adult, someone who has actually seen the Law work (though not perfect). I now think everyone cries a river. In this specific case, the so called freedom has consequences to society. Anyone who has seen how child are indeed affected, and I don't mean only extreme things like getting drugs or hate crimen , but no one can deny society as a whole has gone down a rabbit hole due to exesive use of internet. Before anyone calls out that it's the parents responsibility. Yes that's true, but the reality your family/kids might be good people. There are 99% out there who are not and have been brain dead by many things on the internet.
