GF4mx440 prob...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

i have a problem with my Leadtek GF4mx440 a170. When i put it in my comp bout a week ago, everything went fine. Installation, games etc.

then one day i turned on my comp onyl to find winxp would not load... hdd was flashing a lil bit (not much @ All) and lil blue bar on xp logo was moving but xp did not load (after 1 hour i gave up)

i reinstalled windows... and it was going fine for a lil while (2-3 days) then did the same thing...

I have no idea what is going on... (it loads to safe mode fine)

please help if you have any ideas/experience

because previously i never had this problem...

ive used a gf2 mx400, gf3 ti500 and a gf2 ti. and it only happened when i put in that card...

im not ruling out a mobo incompatibility, old bios etc. im jsut trying to sort this out

Not exactly helpful but if you had a GF3 Ti500 why are you using a GF4MX as they're nowhere near as fast or capable? If you've still got it use the Ti500 instead.

you'd have a point if you didnt just make assumptions about what i want in this machine...

This ISNT my main machine so therefore i dont NEED a ti500 in it, so what a waste time telling thigns i already know...

Forget the TI500 comment then, however I don't really see how a graphics card can corrupt a Windows installation several days after you've installed it. Immediately after you've installed the drivers I could understand as that's happened to me with both SIS AGP drivers and Detonators. What MOBO is it?

i must have been very vague in the description of my problem... when i install dets and restart thats when the prob arises. if i go to safe mode and uninstall those dets its fine... if i install dets and swap for another card its still fine so it isnt corrupting any windows files at all...

the mobo is dfi ad70-sc, athlon 2100+, 512 ddr, 40g WD hdd...

What does XP think the card is on first boot as I had a problem with my cheapo GF3 not being detected properly. If it detects it as a standard graphics card I'd try extracting the Nvidia drivers to a new folder and doing a manual 'update driver' from the device manager. Doing the auto install failed miserably with my card but at least it didn't kill my system so I got a few goes to test it out.
