Russian Spammer Murdered.

Recommended Posts

Vardan Kushnir, notorious for sending spam to each and every citizen of Russia who appeared to have an e-mail, was found dead in his Moscow apartment on Sunday, Interfax reported Monday. He died after suffering repeated blows to the head.

Kushnir, 35, headed the English learning centers the Center for American English, the New York English Centre and the Centre for Spoken English, all known to have aggressive Internet advertising policies in which millions of e-mails were sent every day.

In the past angry Internet users have targeted the American English centre by publishing the Center?s telephone numbers anywhere on the Web to provoke telephone calls. The Center?s telephone was advertised as a contact number for cheap sex services, or bargain real estate sales.

Another attack involved hundreds of people making phone calls to the American English Center and sending it numerous e-mails back, but Vardan Kushnir remained sure of his right to spam, saying it was what e-mails were for.

Under Russian law, spamming is not considered illegal, although lawmakers are working on legal projects that could protect Russian Internet users like they do in Europe and the U.S.

I would say he had it coming. I dont feel bad for him 1 bit. Someone who purposly harasses someone (spam or whatnot) constantly should be, as Garfield would say "dragged out into the street and shot"

I think if you put it into context, they are hardly as bad as rapists and paedophiles. I know this is a computer website, but if when people think "if someone has to go, it should be a spammer" it's slightly worrying.

And unless I missed it, it doent actually say anything about his murder being connected with sending spam.

Spamming may one day become illegal worldwide but spammers should't get death sentence or punishment like this one. Actually, they've never made me mad.

BTW, those attackers have to be punished somehow.

True, but spam is what the article focuses on, so I suppose there's a large possibility that his murder was because of his spamming.

Ohh my opinion on what should happen to pedophiles and rapists is much more extreme then that of spammers. A few months ago i swithced from eudora email to thunderbird. I used Eudora since 1999. When i migrated my mail boxes all the emails from Eudora got put in the same folder including the ones in the trashcan (I guess i didnt perma-delete them in Eudora). My inbox was a bit over 37,000 emails. Maybe 500 of those weren't spam. it took sooo long to go through them and perma-delete the ones i didnt want to keep (had a few emailed in there i needed to keep such as to/from ebay customers.). Lucky the search feature in thunderbird is good so i managed to take big chunks out by searching for common spam terms (sex, porn, viagra etc...) but 37k in 6 years? geez.

Yes, I would trial spammers for upwards of life in prison, but I can't believe any of you people who say "good" to the guy being MURDERED... I can only assume you're saying it jokingly. Because if you aren't, my rsponse to you would look something like this:

"Oh noes! God, I now get like twenty, no, no, twentyFIVE unwanted emails a day, this is completely ruining my life... I can't eat anymore, I can't sleep, I lost my job, my wife left me, no sex in 3 years. These spammers deserve to DIE! This is worse than terrorism, serial killers and rapists, COMBINED!!

/endSarcasm"

You wouldn't get life in prison for spamming. The people saying this is justice, he had it coming, or anything remotely close to 'good' are unbelievable. I don't care if he did spam. It is something only mildly annoying, some somoene who drives 5mph under the speed limit. Should they die too?
