Deron Dantzler
I recently changed these things, and I'm not sure what the problem is: 01. 256 MB SDRAM to 1 GIG DDR 02. AGP GeForce 2 32 MB to PCI GeForce 4 Mx420 64MB Ram. 03. Via Onboard Audio to CMedia PCI Audio. 04. Added system fans including Thermaltake Volcano 7+. Now my system freezes completely (mouse just sits there), and I have to cut it off rather than restart. It seems to be a hardware issue of some sort, but I'm not really sure what it is. I would guess overheating, but the CPU is staying at 39 degrees Celsius, and everything that I bought was brand new so I'm not sure what the problem is. After I cut it off, it sometimes takes me a few cut-offs/ons before bios will load and the computer will restart. Sometimes after the first off and on the computer will be powered, but won't start up. I replaced the power supply about 2 months ago...I'm at a loss... :( (This is the second time that I've tried to post this b/c it froze last time.) jessejlt
Try setting things back to the way they were before one by one to isolate the problem.
Roger H. Veteran Posted June 30, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2002 too much ram, even tho your MOBO can handle it not all of em work flawlessly with all that ram... and i'm guessing you disabled the onboard audio right? oh and turn down your memory timings to normal instead of trying to squeeze all the juice outta it!. username
do you have WHQL drivers for all that new hardware? Try bumping up your DDR voltage to 2.6v or 2.7v how about those CPU temps? maybe you are not making contact with the CPU core
Roger H. Veteran Posted June 30, 2002 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2002 he said his CPU was 39C! that's freezing cuz mine is 44C now... 1800+ (no OC)
Deron Dantzler
I have all of the drivers installed. The scariest thing is the fact that bios doesn't even load after it goes through one of these lockups. I have to fiddle with it by cutting it off and on even using the switch in the back to get it to come back on.
