pcw
Has anyone got it to work? I've set up a harddrive image that is 5GB and I've mounted the Vista iso with Daemon Tools. I load it up, get in the setup and when it's time to choose harddrive I choose my 5GB and partition it and format it but after that clicking on next is still greyed out and it says unavailable on the partition. Statikk
Try booting to an xp disc first and use that to partition and format.

Statikk
Don't install XP, just boot from the XP disc, partition, format, and then reboot to the Vista image.
olivergogogo
minimum requrement disk space is 6G, in other words, u must have at least 6G space in ur partition or disk to complete the installation(although there will be approximate 3.5G after full installation)

I got through the installation now after making the partition 6GB but now it said just after beginning to install "Setup was unable to locate a locally attached hard drive suitable for holding temporary Setup files" :(

Statikk
It could just be an issue with VPC. Maybe try a copy of the latest VMWare?

pcw
No luck with VMWare either.. same issue as with Virtual PC 2004.. though with VMWare I can't install WinXP pro but I could do that with Virtual PC 2004 to create a partition...
corrosive23
Setup in this release of "Longhorn" versions of Windows does not support installing to "RAW" disks (disks without a partition). To work around this issue, install the "Longhorn" version of Windows on a partitioned disk. If you must install to a RAW disk, press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt. Use the Diskpart utility to create a disk partition. Restart the computer after creating the partition, and start Setup again. The disk should be available for use. Yagi
I had the same issues with the WinHec one. If you have a copy of partition magic use the boot disks, run the virtual machine to boot from those disks, use them to partition and format the virtual disk, restart booting from cd and you should have no problems

pcw
Beta 1 does indeed install on VPC2004. 586288931[/snapback] Wanna give me the heads up how to do it? Step by step :) As you can read I've tried almost everything.. been doing this for 12 hours now (not straight tho :p ) right now I'm playing with VMware but it's a fuss aswell :(
savourymonkey
It is far more straightforwards to create a real partition using partion magic, to mount the iso and then start your installation from xp onto the newly created partition. I have done it this way, and have made the partition 20GB (just for fun), and had absolutely no problems. It was a much quicker install than with 5048, which for me took about four hours for some reason. This one only took 45 minutes, and as far as I can tell has had no problems. Partition Magic is available as a trial version. Make sure it's the latest one because some of the older versions hanging around on various dodgy p2p's have issues where NTFS is concerned. pcw
Oh f**k me sideways! :D I finally got it to install :D I did the whole shabang with Partition Magic and it kept complaining right after it started installing saying "Setup was unable to locate a locally attached hard drive suitable for holding temporary Setup files".. I thought that was very weird because Windows always puts the temporary files on the harddrive you're installing it to. So after a while I thought what the heck I'll try to create a small virtual disk of 1GB in size and TADAAA it worked! Very weird indeed but it worked :D Just wanted to tell you all that so I guess the problem is solved finally.
