So, to clarify , everyone who doesnt have a warezed version of XP is fine, and everyone with illegitimate versions have this problem ?

Mine is legitimate, i might be installing IE7 , ive been using vista for a few days and just come back to XP.

No I don't think so. As far as I understand, WU update doesn't work in IE7 no matter what version of XP.

You have two options install IE7 in standalone mode or IE6.

No, as in my case with a legal copy of XP, WUv6 or MicrosoftUpdatev6 does not work correctly.

As also reported on the various IE MSDN blogs, this is also the case for the 'vast majority of users of IE7 Beta 1' this includes those who have managed subscriptions to MSDN D/L area...

you know, all they gotta do is change the browser check string and it should work... this is so retarted that this wasnt fixed immediately.

IE7 does support windows update... BUT only version 6.2 of Windows Update. Yes I am a beta tester, and sorry I can't or won't provide a leak... Answer? If you have IE7 Beta and you would like to use the windows update, then you will just have to wait a bit but be assured, they dance nicely together and make a wonderful pair.

I had the same problem - turns out it was caused by the Windows Update service not being started on my PC. I sent into the MMC console and started the service and everything worked fine.
