IE 7 Beta 1 Stinks?

Recommended Posts

I don't think it stinks, I was using Firefox, but IE7 rocks! Way easier to make new tabs and what not! A very nice improvemnt over IE6.

They do still have a few things to work out, but I sure they will once it goes final...

Does any one of our collective membership have any other suggestions on how to get either WUv6 or MicrosoftUpdatev6 to work correctly in IE7_Beta1...

I have tried all these methods:

Will This Solve IE7 Issues W/both Microsoft & WU v6

****************************************************

Posted @Neowin 20050727***

here for the guys with problems:

# Extract IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe with WinRAR (or anything that works) to a temporary directory.

# Open update\iecustom.dll in a hex editor.

# Navigate to hexadecimal offset 0x1034h(4148 decimal) and change 0F 95 to 0F 94.

# Save and execute update.exe.

# Enjoy.

*************************************************************************************************

ok, i did it on my own, you BS helpers,

people, go download hex workshop 4.2 (its free) and then open the iecustom.dll with the hex workshop 4.2

and go to "edit" and then "replace" and then type 0F95 and change it to 0F94 and save it

all done,

********************************************************************

Even just tried a 'supposely fixed WinXP_IE7_En.exe, no success at all, as WUv6 just keeps scanning.......

Thanks...

I remember how all of you IE fans ripped us Firefox fans for bragging about Firefox. Now that IE is "new" (and I use the term new loosely) you all can't seem to take what you dished out not so long ago. IE7, as a beta, is a step up. Not bad and not good. I can say one thing for sure, as long as it has ActiveX it will remain the most insecure browser on the planet.

Glad you think so highly of us web developers that pour hours into having to work around IE's broken engine. Nice and thank you very much.

WOW, someone else on here who actually knows what they are talking about. Listen to Treefrog. IE, to be successful, needed to be a complete rebuild. Its not. Same old car with a new paint job.

I ended up in ignoring IE engine; if my css shows in Opera the way I intended to, then I coded my best. I can't waste my time in working around the same old bugs of a stupid browser.

Without making a direct hit here, i'd estimate it's not the interface that's retarded.

They may not work for you, but they work for almost everyone else who tried it (myself included.)  Are you related to the guy i quoted above perchance?

Maybe in your site but what about your clients, if you have? Almost every company use IE as their primary or even the only browser.

I like IE 7 Beta 1's speed and it also has a surprisingly good stability. The features so far are great too. The only thing bad is the interface.

You're right... I didn't think about the professional web developers who have to struggle against IE-only-users every day.

I hope MS will add compatibility in the final version of their 'new' browser (I didn't d/l that leaked beta), but I'm quite skeptical though.

I love it, switched from Opera / FireFox (was seeing which I prefered).. But I love the Anti-Phishing feature in Internet Explorer (Great for an eBayer, like me) and all the other new features.. Tabbed browsing works great, runs like a charm.

 Great Anti-Privacy too.

ActiveWin.com: Partial IE 7 Feature List

When you use Phishing Filter to check Web sites automatically or manually, the address of the Web site you are visiting will be sent to Microsoft, together with some standard information from your computer such as IP address, browser type, and Phishing Filter version number. Other information sent includes the total number of Web sites you have browsed since the last time an address was sent by Phishing Filter, the total number of Web sites matched against the legitimate list since the last time an address was sent, the time since the last submission to Microsoft and the total number of times Phishing Filter has sent addresses to Microsoft.

FYI, for people complaining about some features not working ... you are obviously using an illegal hack of the software ... This version of IE7 was not meant to be pulled from Vista and is not a public beta.

586291836[/snapback]

You are obviously not aware that Microsoft has released a version of IE7 Beta 1 for Windows XP to the MSDN Universal community. While not everyone here has legally obtained this beta legally, the release is direct from Microsoft and not some cheap hack.

I totally agree! The interface is terrible! TOTALLY rubbish!

I don?t understand people?s need to needlessly occupy more and more screen real-estate. Here is a mock-up I had designed. Look at it's slim look, taking up only 28 extra pixels from the current IE6.

Microsoft NEEDS to stop designing interfaces that are bloated!

The favorites thing is one bug, then if you have an AIM window or any other window that is above IE and then you attempt to click on a link while the other AIM window has precedence over IE you have to click twice to have IE be able to know what to do. With IE6 even if I had an AIM window open I could click on a link and it would automatically go.

Also godaddy.com and a few other sites don't work with this beta.

I think Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 is alright. Still needs alot of work, but it looks like its heading in the right direction. Also nobody cares if you're sticking with Firefox or Opera, so stop trolling.

Under Vista with the glass effect I must admit it looks pretty good. Under XP with classic theme it looked awful. It's getting there though.

One feature I really want is inline search that Opera and Firefox offer instead of the stupid popup dialog!

IE7 Beta1 is tech crap!

I didn't believe it until I try it.

And it's the worst browser I try.

I hope that the final product will be better...

Windows Vista deserves a better browser than this!
