wa22guy
I've noticed a ton of threads about different bugs in Vista Beta 1. If you have issues, post them below. Maybe we can get a bug thread going?
philtep
DirectX9 on 64-bit version with ATI card doesnt work. ATI drivers dont work at all, and the only usable drivers are the MS ones (which don't seem to support DX9) that means.. no Aero glass. Workaround: Boot in VGA Mode, or Safe Mode, then switch to oldest MS drivers (2004). Specs: P830, 1gb DDR2, ATI X700, trying to run at 1600x1200. baza23
If you turn off the Security Center, on the next reboot it will be back on.
bad_checksum
Not sure if it's only me, but I also have broken DirectX 9. Some texture failure with an HResult 0x000000 (LOL) in DXDiag. Detected bad blocks on my Supertalent USB 2.0 512MB Flash drive (just an observance) After first reboot, I lost all networking capability while my other PC worked fine. I had to release/renew the IP to my router (regular reset didnt work) inside the router config page to get Vista working again... Have no idea why that worked. My XBOX (using XBOX Media Center) can no longer access shares using Vista, and my other PC insists on using a password to login, despite using simple sharing and proper permissions. Microsoft needs to get their betas right. (kidding)
bad_checksum
If you turn off the Security Center, on the next reboot it will be back on. 586290675 Yes, I have that too. Also, my google toolbar keeps resetting itself to default settings in IE. I hate all of those extra buttons. Everytime I remove them and close the browser, when I open a new IE, the buttons are all back...
usernotfound
I dont know if it's a "feature" but the damn windows never close/minimize when i click the buttons, even if the window is already in focus. sometimes i swear i click minimize and it maximizes, sometimes it doesn't do a damn thing. i dont mind if they changed tolerances for how long you have to click or anything, it just seems too random to be productive at all. savourymonkey
I'm having a few software issues, like photoshop and dreamweaver will seem to work fine, then gradually get a bit laggy, and finally just freeze up altogether. Do'nt understand why they're fine at first. Also, does anybody else find that performance seems to vary with each reboot? Last night vista was working with all effects and was smooth, responsive and fast. This morning, on my first boot up, it was slow and laggy, second time was fine, probably faster than xp running quite a few different apps. Now, rebooted again because of some network changes, and back to being slow. Doesn't seem to make any sense. I've also got 33 processes running at startup, but don't want to end any as there's quite a few I don't recognize.
savourymonkey
On the issue above, the min/max buttons on mine are fine on a 'good' boot where evrything works smoothly, but seem to have a mind of their own on the'bad' boot.
bad_checksum
hahaha, all of my mp3s (all in one folder, unsorted) seem to have adopted a Linkin Park icon. That kinda gets me mad that Microsoft decided to change icons for music (and possibly video) files without asking permission first. Who knows where these mp3 files are being reported to. LOL. There are different artists in that folder too, I wonder why Linkin Park remained the dominant Icon..? Trying to default my mp3 icons with Winamp has proved unsuccessful. halo1982
Edit to include post: i cant rate my musichey i have like 10 gigs worth of music is microsoft able to see they are all illegal? and also i have a nvidia fx5200 is there away to enable glass or where i can find the wokring drivers? to make it happen and ohh yeah i have a wireless network and my wired connection to my desktop keeps on restting i constantly recieve the message "network cable unplugged" i was experiencing this in windows xp but is more on vista any word on how to fix it 586290783 IM GLAD ITS NOT ONLY ME!!! I have the same network cable unplugged. I never experience that under XP. What kind of network card is it? And whats your system like? I have an FX5200 with the ****ty 64-bit memory bus however my actual system is pretty good. I usually manage to run Glass pretty well. It should switch to Glass when it can, but you might try going to computer->right click->properties->performance(?)->visual (or something like that...can't remember off the top of my head) and selecting all the check boxes for effects. And no, microsoft won't be able to see thay you have illegal music :eyeroll: Original: I have the security center resets settings on reboot. Also sometimes it seems textures of windows get corrupted. Like the properties of my DVD drive did a few times on last reboot. When I first installed it the install additional drivers window came up, and when I switched windows, the additional drivers window took on the texture of the desktop and blended in perfectly. Also, and MOST frustrating, is that my network connection constantly discos/recons. Like every 20 seconds. I can hardly use the internet. It's a RTL8139 integrated LAN, and I'm gonna try it with another network card, but thats really frustrating...it makes my computer under Longhorn basically useless. And I have the problem where sometimes when I boot up it's VERY snappy, and then other times it's SLOW and when I drag/minimize/whatever the animations are VERY choppy. Only once when I was doing this did it switch to Graphite (which is what I believe it's supposed to do whenever the system resources are being used so much that it can't keep up the right speed under Glass). A friend is selling me his 9800XT for $50, so hopefully that'll fix some of my GUI problems. The FX5200 is trash...I don't know what I was thinking. Oh, and also, does anyone else think that the translucent windows look like absolute ****? It's sickening how poorly they're done. Microsoft should have taken a cue from Apple or well...any of the hundreds of software developers that have done it WELL. Yeah yeah, it's 3D so its more complicated, but Apple does it with Quartz Extreme just fine. With as long as it's taken to get longhorn out to beta1...ehhh anyway. I'm sure they know this and it'll be fixed in the next release. </rant> Edited July 29, 2005 by halo1982

fatcatxp
Ie7 doesn't load some of web pages properly, somtimes it just stopped, and not showing anything. The most werid part is the Vista's networking, it's crap, Network cards are recongized by windows, and properly installed with drivers but it just won't work. It's doesnt work with nvidia's build in nic, D-linik, realtek..etc. (but it works on my labtop, a intel network chip). It's super odd, in the property of local area network, there is no IP, DNS, Gateway..etc. (even if i set it manually). Really werid, but after manully setting IP, DNS, gateway, I can connect to other computer through LAN, but CANNOT connect to the internet.
halo1982
Another one...when I look at my network properties it always shows bytes sent but never received, even though I am able to view web pages and get files from other computers on the network. Is there anyway non-winbeta testers can download the bug reporting tool and submit bugs? Cause I'm finding a bunch of them. =P

Acezo
Doubt it's a bug (more like an incomplete feature right now), but I think searching is limited only to the user folder. Really makes the Virtual Folders useless since all my data is on a seperate partition :p And as of now the search bar in explorer works only for the current folder you're in and doesn't check subfolders
ew2x4
yea it bluescreens for me also with a stop 0x0000007b message after the first reboot. 586290860 I have the exact same problem. I install. It's very fast. I reboot, the continue longhorn setup or go to pre longhorn selection comes up. Then, there's the BSOD stop message. I have done this on Sata and IDE. Now, I have no idea how to get rid of that selection when I reboot. I bring my XP installation up to default in the boot.ini, but no way to delete the longhorn setup. My rig: AMD 64 3200+ Asus K8V SE Deluxe Sata 120 GB Samsung IDE 80 GB WD 512 MB ram Nvidia 6800 Anyone know a way to fix any of this?
