philtep
If your on 64bit version use the new ATI beta drivers for vistahttps://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...uestionID=19933 586290813 I haven't been able to get that driver to work at all. After setting that driver, Vista boots to a black screen with some random lines, then my monitor goes to standby. It amy have something to do with the resolution. My LCD monitor defaults to 1600x1200 and it is probably trying to set the res at that during boot. I've noticed that if, using either the ATI or the MS latest driver, I scale the res to 1600x1200, it throws it back to 640x480. The highest I can get is 1280x1024. usernotfound
Another thing that was quite annoying, i installed by booting from the dvd, and when the first screen came up, i had no curser, and no keyboard control. I have a USB keyboard and mouse, so i rebooted, made sure BIOS was in legacy USB mode, and started again. Still nothing, so i come here to check if anyone else had that problem (technet was useless) and while i'm on my laptop, a cursor appears, like 5 minutes later. So i've got mouse control now, i start installation. Until i get to entering my key. Keyboard isn't working. So i go grab a ps2 keyboard (i have an old wireless one) but i dont have a ps2 mouse anymore. The keyboard works then, but my USB mouse didn't come back up until it was half way through the first installation phase, and I didn't need it anymore. Weird. yakumo
Asus m6ne laptop. 512mb pc2700. ati 9700mobility. stop 0x000000a5 "The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated bios." BSOD shortly after booting the DVD, jsut after the black screen where it says 'windows copying files' so no user-interaction at all. tried the x0205 bios my machine shipped with, and now upgraded to the v0208 bios latest on asus support. same problem :( real bummed as the 9700mobile in it is listed as supported in the vista b1 LDDM list :( (i have tired mailing asus support, no reply yet but i don't expect anything for a beta OS tbh) edgarf28: svchost hosts multiple system services, go through the service list in the computer manager and see if there are any you can stop. usernotfound
well maybe this is an IE7 problem, or a vista induced IE7 problem, but i cannot connect to remote web workplace on my SBS2003 machine. i try to log in, and it says : The page cannot be displayed A problem has occurred with the Remote Web Workplace. Close this browser window, and then log on again. If this problem continues, contact the person responsible for your network. " and up on the address bar it's telling my the certificate is invalid. I accept, download, and install the certificate like usual, and still, doesn't work.
Dracontopes
Installation worked fine, but any other boot to the OS results in a hangup at boot. The bar that has those blocks moving just hangs. And the IDE led is on (which is quite normal for a hangup I think). Only sometimes I'm able to get into the OS. Appears to be a randomly occuring problem, with a chance of 19/20 to just HANG. Anyone else experiencing this ugly bug? Not sure if it's a bug though, could be hardware trouble. Windows XP boots fine. (Vista is installed on a different partition, S-ATA disk @ si3112 controller, ASUS a7n8xdel2.0, 9700pro)
umneycreep
Well, everything has been pretty successful for me. I'm impressed generally. A small bug is with the beta version of yahoo messenger... it doesn't show the names in the buddy list. Xp works fine... yeah i know i'm dealing with two beta versions and that's what happens haha...
usernotfound
You can submit bug reports anonymously if you dont want them tied to your passport. I do not know, however if this works for those of you who might have a non-legit copy. Nowhere in the reports i've sent has anything (to my knowledge) checked my key or anything. Ghostdraconi
Edit to include post:IM GLAD ITS NOT ONLY ME!!! I have the same network cable unplugged. I never experience that under XP. What kind of network card is it? And whats your system like? I have an FX5200 with the ****ty 64-bit memory bus however my actual system is pretty good. I usually manage to run Glass pretty well. It should switch to Glass when it can, but you might try going to computer->right click->properties->performance(?)->visual (or something like that...can't remember off the top of my head) and selecting all the check boxes for effects. And no, microsoft won't be able to see thay you have illegal music :eyeroll: Original: I have the security center resets settings on reboot. Also sometimes it seems textures of windows get corrupted. Like the properties of my DVD drive did a few times on last reboot. When I first installed it the install additional drivers window came up, and when I switched windows, the additional drivers window took on the texture of the desktop and blended in perfectly. Also, and MOST frustrating, is that my network connection constantly discos/recons. Like every 20 seconds. I can hardly use the internet. It's a RTL8139 integrated LAN, and I'm gonna try it with another network card, but thats really frustrating...it makes my computer under Longhorn basically useless. And I have the problem where sometimes when I boot up it's VERY snappy, and then other times it's SLOW and when I drag/minimize/whatever the animations are VERY choppy. Only once when I was doing this did it switch to Graphite (which is what I believe it's supposed to do whenever the system resources are being used so much that it can't keep up the right speed under Glass). A friend is selling me his 9800XT for $50, so hopefully that'll fix some of my GUI problems. The FX5200 is trash...I don't know what I was thinking. Oh, and also, does anyone else think that the translucent windows look like absolute ****? It's sickening how poorly they're done. Microsoft should have taken a cue from Apple or well...any of the hundreds of software developers that have done it WELL. Yeah yeah, it's 3D so its more complicated, but Apple does it with Quartz Extreme just fine. With as long as it's taken to get longhorn out to beta1...ehhh anyway. I'm sure they know this and it'll be fixed in the next release. </rant> 586290791 I had the problem with the Network unplugged. I fixed it by disabling Universal Plug and Play. Just go to Computer Management and disable SSDP Discovery Service and Universal Plug and Play Device Host. I also noticed the slowdown on my computer then realised the Windows search will index you drive when it feels like no matter what you're doing at the time. My worst bug however was when my DVD drivers suddenly decided they were corrupt. I was about to ditch Vista when I found the answer online. I had to go into the registry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Control - Class - {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and delete the key LowerFilters. ThunderRiver
Someone mentioned that he/she recieved "DirectSound error". I had the same problem until I installed the proper driver for it. My system does not even use Intel chipset for sound, so I have no idea why Vista considers it so. For beta testers out there, we can submit bugs through the BetaClient available from WindowsBeta and Microsoft. There is a link that directs you to download the BetaClient as well. Before you submit bugs, be sure log in to Microsoft Connect and do a quick search, so that you can verify no one posted the bugs before you do. If someone did, you can vote, and comment on it. Otherwise, feel free to post one and have others vote on yours. The concept of Microsoft Connect is on the right track because it forces testers to share informations. The only weird part is that Microsoft Connect sets all the bug reports as Private reports, not Public. However, you can easily changing that within each bug report and hit submit. It is great feature for people to vote on your bug, and I suppose the more votes you get, the sooner it will get fixed :)

yakumo
got my 1210sa SATA controller working yesterday. use the adaptec winXP or 2k3 driver, doesn't matter which, the 2k3/xp driver files are identicall to each other in this case, only the WHQL certificate files differ. they unzip to a:\ with : hraidsk1 txtsetup.oem in root and the rest of the files in a subfolder. put all the files in root of your driver disk instead, and then vista recognises that the drivers are there when you click 'load' and it installs and runs fine. zecold
After I finally got Vista to install successfully, the first launch was ok, there was the interface and all. I let it run all the night while I was sleeping, and in the morning, black screen, no HD led activity, and impossible to set numlock on, so I think it crashed. After a reset, I get the longhorn boot screen with the sliding bar, then black screen, for at least 30 minutes (I reset again after 30 mn). I reinstalled, and I don't even get the interface after the last reboot due to the installation. Now my Longhorn gets black when it's started, just after the boot screen.
