How is Vista beta1 running with games?

Recommended Posts

I've just been playing good old Guild Wars and Battlefield 2 on this, runs really nice and smooth :D:D I couldn't find any problems really. Except one thing - the 4.97 nforce audio drivers I loaded on for my nForce 2 A7N8X board is a tiny bit crackly sometimes.

You can use the latest audio drivers in the nForce 4 driver package. I've been using those drivers and I've never had a problem.

But I have an nForce2 board - surely I can't use those drivers? Or are you talking about the unified 5.10 driver pack?

I'm using the 6.66 drivers. They are meant for Nforce 4 boards but I'm pretty sure all of the nforce boards (except maybe the first) have realtek audio so the audio driver should be compatible. I'm using them with my nf3. Here is the link: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1128

The newest audio driver is 4.62. Good luck!

I'm going to be testing Halo and Halo Custom Edition on Beta 1, I'll report back after I try :)

Unfortunately, my ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9000 Pro does not support DWM :(

i've played HL 2 and CS source on vista and i have to say it ran very smooth, just a few times it got choppy but you have to expect that form a early beta.

So for playing games i have to give vista a 7 out of 10

I have tested vista on a few games, and I can tell you right now for those having problems with apps or games .. try compatibiliy mode, it works great.

All my games have been faster, seems like right when i click on the icon for a game it pops up, no delay waiting for them to load up like in xp. even doom 3 popped right up. I also noticed they run a bit smoother on startup, no first round jitters. Overall i would say it has better performance with games and most of my apps.

Ive ran:

Doom3

Flatout

A Bards Tale

Ut2004

HL2

and i have more to try, but they all performed better than xp.

My rig:

FX-55, NFORCE 4, X850 XT PE PCI E

I have found that games run pretty poorly, generally there's a lack of smoothness throughout, whether desktop orm gaming. Even when the frame rate indicates the game should be running very smoothly (ie 60fps or more) it's still not smooth. Might just be my particular setup. I also find video playback isnt smooth.
