Has my hard gone bad?

Recommended Posts

I have two hard drives, 1 dvd and 1 cdrw drive. My hard drive on the secodary master makes a clicking noise. I restarted my computer and I enabed this S.M.A.R.T. opinion thats in the BIOS. It reported that the status was bad and I needed to replace it. I ran disk check and asked it to fix any errors ( which Ihad to restart my computer again ) and the S.M.A.R.T. reported no errors and that the status was ok. So has my hard drive gone bad?

it would seem that Xstaindx is right....clicking = dead drive...

but that's not always the case....at least not with me...

a couple of months back....my drive was doing the same thing....clicking noises...

after a couple of days....drives e and f were gone....the drive seeeeeemed dead...and i thought it was

so i took it out...was ready to buy a new one...figured i would give it one more try...and it worked....

so...to make a long story short....clicking can be cause by a drive being overly used at one point...or too much heat...

i got a hard drive fan....and haven't heard clicking since....i still use that same drive....

if it starts clicking...i would suggest shut your computer down for an hour or so....just let it cool off...or go get a fan...

hope that helps....once again...just my experience....

staindx could be right..

rather than buy a new drive...here is what i suggest....much cheaper

buy a fan for your drive...

get all your stuff off the drive while you still can...incase it does die.

delete the partitions and format....(clear the drive of ANYTHING)
