Recommended Posts

ok yeah the only point of this topic was to basically start an arguement between the two sides...what a ****ing waste.    You are not going to convice one side to see the other and go oo yeah i guess you are right.  This topic should of been locked from the start, the mod's obviously were incoherit or just plain irresponsible..

You think? We might as well un-ban a few folks, at least the arguments were much more fun to get into. Wheres Been when you need him?

The only reason why most of this is happening is because we didn't crush Iraq, because it is politically unacceptable to do so.  Crushing the opponent is in fact pretty much the only counter-insurgency policy you can adopt, as we witnessed in World War II.
I meant the infrastructure of the country. I.E. Rode, building, and utilities. And if your talking about intentionally crushing a country politically, you should do a bit of reading as one of the causes of WWII was Germany being crushed after WWI.
Being in an arid desert country makes it less suitable for a democratic style government?
 Where did I say that? I was describing the country. And no where did I say that it was any small feet. Giving people a voice in their government, no matter what country, is to be applauded.
Fortunately, we might be able to begin pulling out next year, and I have to say to our 'loyal' allies with regards to Iraq, thanks for nothing!  If it succeeds, well you did nothing, and if it fails, well you certainly played a part in it.  I must say, it really takes some reasoning to do everything in your power to torpedo every effort to take something good out of a war you so vehemently oppose.
All the blame can not be put on our ?allies?. I?m sure if it was just our allies pushing us to get out, the president might hold his ground, but it the American citizens that are starting to ask him to leave. And the media is certainly not helping. But I agree with you on this. We are there now, were committed, we can?t leave until it?s stable.
This is one of the areas where I differ with other people, because I am willing to give the war a chance to prove whether it has more positive than negative ones.  You yourself said Iraq should take billions more and years longer.  Why on earth are you already drawing conclusions?

I am not drawing conclusions; I am merely stating what has already taken place and it present consequences.

If you would like my prediction, it is this. If the US fails, it will fail big time. That is if we hurry a pull out and Iraq collapses into chaos, the national community, especially the rest of the Middle East, will not be happy with us, knowing if we left it alone it would have been better. But, if we stay long enough, and Iraq becomes stable, the people there will probably be happier we came then they are now. How happier, that depends on what happening now.

I cannot stand threads like these... here is what i say in some, but feel when I read all of them.

The war in Iraq has had both some benefits, and some downfalls. I am not going to go list things... because it is purely opinion based, as is everyones view. But a hard fact is this... It is everyone's duty to support the war. And before you go off... finish reading my post.

You owe support to the soldiers who are fighting... they are serving your country... so support them, and their efforts, and the war they are fighting. You owe support to your elected leaders. You don't have to agree with them, but support them. We are all human, we all make mistakes, and nobody is perfect. Someone else might be able to the job a little "better", or a way that is more to our liking, but there will still be shortcomings in some areas.

All these threads do is tear down the unity and support that our boys need right now. Think about them when you do reply.

You know I still see around the forums people supporting the Iraqi war claiming it was indeed very purposeful and it held the true meaning of the Liberation by taking out saddam. I really am unable to stand such manipulative (or maybe naive) people. So here are your facts:

- Several prisoner abuse scandals

- Deathroll of American soldiers in Iraq approching 2000 (estimate of 100,000 innocent Iraqi casualties, but only God knows how many Iraqis died with US gunfire)

- Distrust and rejection to the coalition among 80% of Iraqis

Now some of you will say: but the coalition got rid of Saddam and held elections in Iraq (which I'm all for)... but well, how efficient is that when combats and suicide bombings haven't stopped and more recently:

- Millions of dollars for Iraq's reconstruction stolen by American officials and companies

- Anti-US Iraqis are targetting pro-US Iraqis and rumors everywhere about a potential civil war in Iraq.

Now please remind me... how was this war beneficial in any single way on both ends: Iraqis and American soldiers who are both dying everyday to serve the interest of oil corporations.

I counter your links with one simple fact. The only way war has been made worse, is by people not supporting it. IF our soldiers knew in IRAQ that the war they are so proud to fight in, wasnt supported by people back home, the would feel betrayed.

Our soldiers are proud to fight, and saying the war was wrong or has made things worse only brings bad morale to the troops.

now thats a sad though :(

I agree....they might've choosen to go sign up,but they had no idea what type of war this would be. Who knew? And the fact that everyday people tear down what they do because the soliders are trying to defend their country is a little ridiculous.

No one should have to fight in wars, whether is for the right reasons or not. We should just move on and hope they get out of there as quick as possible. I'm sure they don't want to be there any longer than they need to. Most are there because it's their duty being a solider

I agree with Pops and zh3n, soldiers dont get to pick what war they fight, they just get told to go, its not like all the soldiers in the army got together and said "y'know what, lets go start a war in Iraq" so its really unfair to blackball them, i.e. Vietnam. If the war starts and they volunteer to go, thats a slightly different arguement, but oh-well.

also, I know Im likely gonna get slammed for this one, but if you look back at history, you see that war is like an adrenaline shot for technology.

Everyone is going to tell me that the means dont justify the ends, but somebody's gotta play devils advocate....

Why don't you read an article from a Muslim's perspective.

It's not the US soldier that are doing the killing. It's mostly Muslim killing Muslim.
