BroChaos Veteran Posted July 3, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2002 i was under the impression that all the current lcd's have refreshes of about 40ms, average. and crt's, on the average, are around 15-20ms. apparently, nobody here can notice a difference, so i guess that's good. someone correct me if i'm wrong. [LOF]skinnylegs
Well said, Dazzla. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you get more screen real estate for your buck with an LCD. In other words, a 19" LCD screen would have a viewable area the equivalent of a 21" CRT.

If you took your head out of your ass and read this thread, you would know that the refresh rate has nothing to do with it. It's the response time of LCD's. High quality LCD screens today have a repsonse time of 30 or under, usually closer to 15-20. This is on par with CRTs and has all the other benefits over CRT as well. zivan56
Im not sure about external LCD's, but my laptops 14.1' has no problems playing games, and it looks more crisp that it does on CRT. Plus you can play for days without heacaches from the refresh rate
b3njo
regarding on native res..does this mean..if my lcd monitor has 1024x768 then i have to set my games res to that same res? and what about refresh rates? does it still matter between 85 or 100 compared to 60? As said before, if you change the resolution there will be drawbacks. And also as said before, refresh rates are basically non-existent. You will not get flicker etc etc.

Yes, the higher the better. The minimum should be 200:1 and good is around 350:1 and upwards. Same with brightness, the higher the better. 200cd/m2 is the minimum. Bones81
not to promote anybody, but i like the LCD that i have from Planar Systems. Planar isn't such a popular brand in the consumer world, but its big in the medical world as well as other professions I've had this screen since december 2001 and I like the way it plays back games, DVDs and software Native Rez is 1280x1024 And, supposedly the response time according to specs are 15ms Rise, and 10ms Fall, which is pretty good Some other quick numbers that some folks probably care about 400:1 contrast ratio 220 cd/m^2 luminance 160 degress viewing angle horizontal AND vertical (for all those that don't understand it means you can go 80 degrees off from side to side and still get a pretty clear picture) and lastly its dual input, u can hook up 2 PCs, so long as each PC has a different connector (this monitor has a DVI input and an Analog Input) check it out, thats my model, they have other sizes. I got mine from Dell, i'm sure other places sell it too. http://www.planar.com/monitors/PV174.asp :bandit:
