Wireless adapters on vista

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

I've been trying to have my wireless-g pci card adapter from linksys work but I cant find any drivers for windows vista beta 1. I have tried to install the from the CD it came with but it doesnt seem to work on vista. I have the 64 bit edition. Also, when in network settings, when I click "set up small office or home network", it doesnt work, it says there is a file missing. Does this say the same thing for any of you? My wireless card is a WMP54G

Also, do you guys have any idea when the 64bit drivers for windows vista from Nvidia will be out? I have a geforce 6800 and tried to install the 32bit version but it doesnt seem to enable the glass effects.

Thanks!!

Theres gonna be alot less drivers available for 64 bit beta hardware obviously. Try testing the 32 bit version, probably easier to get working.

well, i got problems w my wlan adapter too. got an acer 3022wlmi (notebook) with integrated broadcom 802.11b/g wlan adapter. there _are_ drivers for it with vista (well, at least the driver package for backward compatibility that pops up at first start). the driver installs correctly and it seems to run... but the adapter does not "start". the led/button at the notebook does not light up and it cannot find any networks (because of this, i think). any ideas? :-/

I thought Vista was fantastic for WiFi (32bit) it instantly installed my card and done everything it needed to, which was suprising.

well, sounds like in your opinion testers could not ask to get something to work. but i want to, especially since something like the wlan adapter is really essential to a notebook user like me.

@topic: i installed the driver directly from the acer website again, but finally its the same. the only thing i could change is that i have te control panel app "broadcom blah" now, where i can see more info. but... wondering whats up there: if i test the adapters status it passes all tests, including loopback, led test and so on. but: the led is NOT working, though it tells me it was. also its bit confusing that in every option "radio" is enabled, but in 1 tab of the broadcom tool it is not, which seems to be the only correct version of this information *lol*

and, btw: the wltray.exe (tray app from acer/broadcom) does not really work. it loads and seems to be running (task manager), but it doesnt show the tray icon. maybe something touching the tray area changed in vistas code... ? well, would be really tricky for the future, since several apps use the tray area... (well, have to say that the tray area is tricky on xp sometimes too... *lol*)

I'm trying to install my US Robotics wireless card but Vista keeps saying "A service section in the INF was invalid". Does anyone know if/how I could modify the INF to make it work?

Thanks

EDIT: I got it to install by running the driver setup in compatability mode and it works perfect now.

It found my wireless card instantly as well.. a Dell Wireless 1350 card. Granted, it recognized it as a Broadcom 802.11g, but hey it works (Yes, I know both use the same chip :-p)
