A helpful hint for LH/Vista Beta 1 users

Recommended Posts

You may notice that when you come to install applications the default username is "Windows User", or when you right click and go to properties on My Computer, the Registered name is "Windows User"...

you can change this by:

1. Start --> Run ---> "Regedit" or (Windows Key + R)

2. Browse to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\

then look for "RegisteredOwner" in the right panel and double click on it... change "Windows User" to your name or whatever you like....

Just thought i'd post that up incase anyone was getting the same frustration i was getting lol.... i'm not so sure i like the idea of being indetified as a Microsoft asset rather then my name.

:cool:

I don't see why you'd get frustrated. It's only a beta OS, you'll be running it for a few months at the most.

Oh well, I guess little things can bother some people...

You're right, but i guess it probably just frustrates me personally because i'm used to seeing my name in those fields when I use other opertating systems... (XP)...

I understand what you're saying, but this OS and everything on it is going to be wiped clean in just a few short months. Most likely, Beta 2 will actually have the feature to put in your name and company.

No need to be sarcastic, if you don't feel the need for it... or it personally doesnt bother you... it doesnt mean the rest of the world has to follow your ideologies.

If you don't feel the need for it to be changed then thats your personal preference you don't have to hate on everyone else that doesnt share the same feelings as u.

It might annoy some people, and for those that it does annoy... i wrote this for.

For those that it doesnt annoy, don't let this put your world on pause... keep moving...
