Enable Longhorn-style in IE7 beta for XP

Recommended Posts

I was tinkering with the IE7 beta, and managed to turn ON the built-in Longhorn style, complete with shiny new resources. Now your tabs can look nicer than FF!

How To:

Open \windows\system32\ieframe.dll in a resource editor.

Edit UIFILE\20481.

The first chunk of XML, the element block, contains an attribute called sheet.

Change this value from StyleXP to StyleLH.

Save the file, and replace in your dllcache and system32 directories.

Cool. Well doesn't look to well with regular XP Luna Blue VS, but I bet it looks awsome with a Longhorn style VS.

I think I'm gonna fiddle with that file and see what else can be done, lol.

This would probably work in Vista as well, as the setting is "StyleXP" in Vista as well. I'd try it but I don't really feel like trying to get around the new WFP in Vista right now.

Edit: tested in Vista, it works well :)

I can't seem to copy it, it says another program is using the file?  Anybody know which process I'm suppose to be turning off?

The tabs look nice, but they don't fit the theme unless you're using a longhorn theme and the grey background of the tab bar looks a little eh. Good find, nonetheless.
