Well it looks like you're using a HEX Editor, when ya should be using something like Resource Hacker.

Moving the File Edit... menu to the top was the reason I was fishing around inside the files in the first place! I saw the nice graphics inside, noticed the separate stylesheets for XP and LH, and wound up with a nicer tab-bar.

Oh and you may have to close Explorer.exe to replace the file.

Let's see what else can be done... (rubs hands together)

There is also the largest icon I have ever seen inside iexplore.exe -- 128px is for wimps!

Definately a nice find...thanks for sharing. Replacing the ieframe.dll in the dllcache directory is fine, however (like Stricktron mentioned) I did have to shut-down explorer.exe to then be able to rename ieframe.dll in the system32 directory, then it replaces without issue.

First Rt click the Taskbar and select TaskMng---->Select the Process tab and then select the "explorer.exe" process, now click over the 'End Process' button...Your desktop icons, the taskbar and any opened 'explorer window' will disappear.

That's OK, as you have now killed the main process in the system, so nothing works at the moment...At this point you will have a vunerable WFP (WindowFileProtection) action...this is what you want.

Next, now select "File----->New Task (Run...) from the main window in the Windows TaskMng window. This will then launch a dialog box (Create New Task) Select "Browse" and go to the folder_directory where you now want to rename 'ieframe.dll'---->System32...

Rename it ieframe.bak or ieframe.backup...Finally click the 'Cancel' button in this window and you will now be back to the 'Create New Task' dialog.

Type 'explorer' in the 'Open' text field and hit 'ok'...

Ignore any WFP warning windows that may pop-up...and now you can replace the 'edited ieframe.dll into your system32 directory without any issues...

Yeah that one is big alright. I grabbed it from the file earlier today, turned it to transparant png and used it for MSN Messenger display pic, lol.

Replacer is the easy way to replace system files:

www3.telus.net/_/replacer/

lol, yes indeed as I utilize both Restorator & Replacer all the time, however Replacer gave me a 'copy failed error' after the file was successfully copied to the dllcache...

Thus, I resorted to the more 'involved way'...

Good find!! =]

However I turned the XP Style back on, because by using the Vista theme on my XP, IE 7 already looks great  :D

What is the Vista theme for XP that you are talking about and where did you get it?

Sorry if this is a silly question...I use the classic W2000 theme on Windows XP, will I notice any difference if I do this? Could please someone post some screen caps? I'm finding it difficult to replace the system file.

Thanks in advance...

I am using the classic theme in the screenshot I posted in the first post of this thread. This trick just changes the style of the new Tab bar in IE7. That's the only thing that changes, and it doesn't matter what theme/style you use.

Intructions

Make the change in ieframe.dll.

Open a command prompt.

Close IE, and end the Explorer.exe task.

In the command prompt window, copy your new ieframe.dll file to \system32\dllcache, and then to \system32, overwriting the old file.

Run Explorer again, and fire up IE7 to see the new tab bar.
