Actually it makes sense under the tabs. Because those menus are concerning each individual tab, not the whole application. So if I goto View > Encoding > Chinese, I'm not making every tab's content encoded in Chinese, I'm making the tab which the menu is in encoded in Chinese.

ok..... how about leaving it up to individual users? File Edit...etc. can go wherever anbody likes

I'm just saying it looks much neater the way i said it should be (By Default) and also the part where I say should be Moved MS has locked it from moving up to the top. It should be like IE 6 where you can move it anywhere...

MS already explained why they did this way : so they don't break backward compatibility with old 3rd party activex toolbars.

Not that i think it's nice, i do however understand... well maybe MS could contact the most popular activex toolbar makers out there so they change the way the bars are coded ? would be nice

Firefox isn't the law book of toolbar placements. Just because Firefox does it means its technically right.

Originally I didn't like how MS put the toolbars in IE7 Beta and thought the way IE6/Firefox did it was perfect...but after using IE7 Beta for a while I really like it..anyway in the final build of IE7 they will probally unlock the toolbars (like in previous IE's) and allow you to put them where ever you want (unless your using Vista..then your probally stuck with it been the way it is now :p )

I'm pretty much used to IE 7 the way it is now, so I don't really care too much about placement.

Only thing I don't like so far, is the non-scrolling favorites, that sucks, but oh well for now, lol.

At least the tabs can be fully disabled. One thing I hated about tabbed browsers, usually they still like to open stuff in tabs no matter what ya do to disable them. AOL Explorer was quite awsome though.

I'd like it if they brought back the X permanently as opposed to it only being there while the page loads. Also if the icons could be a little larger than what they are right now. I really wish I was choosen to be a beta tester, I would have lots of good input to give to the IE team.

Personally you should have an option to customize the browser the way you want it.

Why would people want it the way they don't like it

the more i use it the more i like it this way... i think ill end up keeping it like this through the final even if we're allowed to move it around....

Yes they should leave the file menu at the top.

Why move it? Confuse the general user even more? They are so used (99% of the time) seeing the file menu bar right under the caption bar. But why move it under not only the toolbar, but the tabs aswell. I know if I were to try to show someone how to use navigate with IE7 they'd have a really hard time, they'd get confused and would get lost easily.

Also why have a blank tab? why show the tab bar when only one site is open? MS needs to get a new damn IE team, seems to be the same morons that have been on it in the past years. Rant On!

Time for me to give my 2p and disagree...

The reason for the menu being moved is partially to do with ActiveX toolbars, partially to better show the hierarchy:

You open ONE browser, which can have MULTIPLE tabs, each of which can have INDIVIDUAL SETTINGS, the tabs own those menu bars, not the other way around.

Too damn right - I hate having the address bar at the top, I would like to be able to move it where I desire !
